Dom Violence My Experience Not Sure Where To Post This

Hi everyone,

I've looked through the forum, but I don't know where to post my experience. I was a bystander to a fatal domestic violence dispute on Christmas Eve. The victim was a neighbor and their murder happened in front of their children, myself and my sibling, and fellow neighbors. Other than my parents and sibling, I haven't talked to anyone about this. Although the incident took place a month ago, sometimes it feels like it happened a year ago. In my life I have a lot to focus on, but now that I'm back in college I find myself losing focus and becoming overwhelmed. I don't mention how I feel to my family because they're not supportive or empathetic really. They've also abused me and been the cause of the PSTD and depression I've experienced off and on since I was a child. Sometimes I would like to have someone to talk to about this, because it feels like it's in the back of my mind; now it's crowding all my ability to focus.

Are there forums or threads for those who witness traumatic events that have happened to others?

ccks. I a sorry that you had to witness such a traumatic event.

Witnessing a traumatic event like this is traumatic in itself for the witness. I think you will be able to find people here on the forum that will relate to how you are feeling, and offer you support.

You also mentioned that your family has abused you, and you suffer from PTSD as a result of that. There are others here on the forum that will be able to support you as you discuss it.

Witnessing a murder is horrific. If you already have PTSD, then I think it rattles you to a different level. You can work through this, though. Grief counseling, victim counseling, trauma therapy. I advise you start the process ASAP.
