News My Nephew Got The Death Sentence

I do not have contact with this part of our family. My nephew is an arsonist and is responsible for the deaths of five people. We have been following this on the news. The fire he set burned one thousand homes and caused us to be evacuated out of our home for four days. The people who died had heart attacks.

The jury chose to give him the death sentance. It is all surreal. His family was so toxic that we had to seperate from them. The rest of the kids to my knowledge are ok. They are messed up from their parents. It is just so sad. i remember him from when he was a little boy. So surreal. He has been on the news and he looks just like his mom. She is into speed, among other things. I just feel weird about the whole thing.

It is really strange to be so close and yet so far from this young man. I had to write about it.

I am so sorry that your family is like this, and that you have to be separated from them. I really admire how much compassion you hold for them still, though. I think it speaks a lot about your strength of character.

I also hope that you are not trying to connect yourself to him any more than you are by blood? We don't get to choose our families, so we just have to make the best of what we have. I know the feeling- it hurts, but at least we have our own immediate families (husbands, wives, and kids) to look forward to and to help us through it all.

I don't really have a lot else to say, just that I am listening and understanding, and have such a great amount of compassion and respect for you.

Thanks Treble, I really appreciated what you said. It is just so weird. I cannot believe it. I knew he was in and out of jail but this is just too weird for me. I always felt bad that we had to cut them off from us. But they were so crazymaking and toxic and high drama and into drugs and petty crimes. I felt bad for abandoning the kids.

He is on my husbands side. It is his sisters son. I remember when he was really little he killed his turtle and blamed it on my daughter and his mom believed him. It was insain. Another one who fell through the cracks and got lost.

It is sure bringing memories up. Anyways thank you very much Treble.

So he sort of had a cruelty to animals thing going on? He sort of sounds like he might have anti-social personality disorder to me, with that combined with the whole serial arsenist thing. It can be caused by an unstable home-life, some psychologists are thinking.

I sure am glad you stopped contact with him, though. People like that are just dangerous, and there couldn't have been much you could have done to help him unfortunately. (hugs)

Gosh, that sounds like a hard situation.

Arsonists usually have some sort of fascination with fire, which is like an obsession.

The cruelty to animals thing does sound a bit disturbing, and that is the actual profile for a serial killer in the making, so, perhaps it's a good thing he was caught?

I always feel for family members of people who do these sorts of things. They are sometimes vilified and ostracized by their community for the actions of their child/nephew etc, for which they had no control over. It's really unfair.

Does anyone know he is your nephew?

Just the family. We broke off contact with them so many years ago. He was still a little boy when we went our seperate ways. We moved away and that was the end of it.

Yeah I am glad he was caught. It was very traumatic to be evacuated from our home and the destruction he did is incredible. I am glad he was caught. No one knows he is our nephew. So we will be ok.We do not belong to any community. So at least we will not have to deal with that problem.

Thanks SOL I appreciate that alot. I feel for the many people whose homes burned down and the five families that lost a family member to a heart attack. I really feel for the victims. when we were evacuated from the fire, we stayed at the red cross shelter at a air base. There were so many people there who did not know if they had homes to go back to. There was so many people.
