I have hit rock bottom today and need a crash course of reminders of coping tools to keep my mind distrac...
@gizmo, I'm so glad you reached out to us!

In the darkest of times I will:
  • Find a safe friend who has time to spend with me.
  • Go into nature; the forest, a pastoral valley, or the ocean.
  • Read poetry, (e.g.Mary Oliver or Rumi) that is simple, rich, and connects me to the purity of nature and spirit.
  • Spend time with young children, that bring me into joy and laughter.
  • Ask my spirit for help, to find an emotionally even inner state.
  • Practice some self-defense exercises where, repeatedly, as I push or kick something away from me, I yell, "Stop," "No". This helps me find my internal locus of control, and it helps move all of me, out of being frozen, and into being active, and into being in charge of my boundaries.
I hope you feel better! Keep in touch.

Mindfulness is one tool that can be used to help. You focus on things in your present environment, non-judgmentally, feeling the seat you are sitting on or the floor you are standing on or the bed you are laying in. Listen to the sounds around you. Smell the air. Look at things and see them as they are, not as they were at some other time, and see them in such a way as to not think of them as dangerous or depressing or anything, but just things that are there that most likely would never harm you.

You can do this at work, while driving, at home or when you are with people that upset you. You can do it anywhere, any time.

I know I'm little late but let's put on some rocking music and sing as loud as we can. Hoping we remember the words. Other wise we look funny and off beat:) Then when we are tried or don't want to hear ourselves sing. Put on some Eagles take a deep breath, sit and have some tea

Thank you @Vandya , @Fadeaway, @SheilaKathy , @Shankara , @Mytime . and @ladee . I am glad that I reached out as well. I do feel better although nothing in my life has changed, but for the great support of everyone here, got me through that awful day. I remember when everyday was a bad day and it has been so long I have forgotten how bad it used to be.

Uncertain future for me. Doing the best I can but thanks to all of you who have a special place in my heart.

Hi Joan, sorry to hear you struggling - I have been there in that dark place, its so dark we cant see where we are, so maybe just stay still and rest and get some sleep if you can. I found these Daily Affirmations off the internet someone wrote for PTSD. So hope you can find something there that will give you peace of mind. Also my PTSD C Group lady - I go to a Group once a month for support so we all can relate to each other and its nice to meet new people who think like US. She has Flash cards in her handbag. So - for instance ; if you write up a sentence like ' Hey everyone hates me and I just want to run away' - you find that flash card, which YOU or a friend can write for you ' Call your best friend ph ....... ask her to fetch you and take you out for a coffee" : Try and make about 5 flash cards if you can of your fears and who can help you.

These are the affirmations that help me :

· I strive to love all of me every day and often.

· I am perfect. My feelings and emotions are impermanent, weak and fleeting – without real power.

· My true self is the only permanent thing about me.

· I am striving to live each minute in the present, bringing awareness to my mind.

· My inner self guides me and is always present in this moment.

· Everything fades, clearing this moment for opportunity to fully blossom.

· My true self is the power of my organism and I bring stillness everyday to my quiet mind.

· I try my best everyday with calm, experiencing life as a miracle.

· Thoughts are delusions, powerless next to my true self.

· Living in the moment solves all things, permitting them to exist on their own.

· I am responsible for me, period. Others are responsible for their actions without my involvement.
