Sufferer New Diagnose From An Extremely Old Trauma

Tracy welcome. I'm also a newer member. I'm 44 and am just now learning healthier way os dealing with similar events. This place is one of those ways.

I too was a victim of military sexual trauma and assault including combat related and head trauma. I'm learning how to talk about it after 21 years of silence.

After nearly dying as a result of a decompression episode and an attempt to cause great harm to myself did I finally seek treatment. Actually, my family pushed me in the right direction. I'm learning new ways to deal with this.

I don't have much to offer since I've only been I'm treatment And counseling for 6 months. I am receiving very good care from the VA and am making small, but affective progress.

I'm new to the VA system and learning how to navigate it. I hope you are all registered with the VA. It took me 21 years for help. We both have a long way to go. All I know so first you must choose to get better.

I will follow your thread since your story seems so similar to mine. Check out my conversations from my profile to learn more about me. I will follow your thread. Thanks for your service.

Welcome to the Forum :)

I have come to understand that this is not an uncommon thing to happen, there is additional PTSD information available on this site.

Please take good care,
Peace,
Rain

Hi and welcome Traci,

I was diagnosed 2 years ago ( my how time flies!) after trauma over 30 years ago. I did not recognize that there was 'anything wrong with me'. However now it all fits. I understand myself so much better, and with therapy am learning to turn my life around. It is strange how you accept so much as 'normal' when you don't know any different.

PTSD is a difficult diagnosis to get used to, but it has certainly helped me to understand why my thinking/behaviour/emotions have been flawed - and - well- unstable.

I wish you well in your journey to recovery
Regards
Lucy x
