New long run!

Yesterday I decided at lunch time while eating dairy queen(fast food) for lunch that I was going to do a 10 mile run last night. It was the perfect temperature for a run. 70 degrees and cloudy. My knee has been hurting so I've been nervous to try longer distances lately. My knee held up and the entire time I was thinking gosh I'm so lucky to be able to run this far. I loved every minute of it! Im happy this year I have found my passion for running and not really been sticking to a training plan. I run because I want to not because it says three miles on the training plan.

I love running but have a hard time getting past the mental part of it. In my head I also think I can't go that far and wind up walking a lot. How do you get past that?

Thanks! I actually run intervals. You can start at 2 minutes running 1 minute walking or 2 minutes running 45 seconds walking. Do a mile...then bump it up a half mile or you could bump up your time to running 3 minutes walking 1 minute. Take it in small manageable steps and you will be able to mentally go farther :) I personally did 7 minutes running 1 minute walking on this run. Don't be ashamed to walk! Forward is forward :)
 
Congrats @Katiesue I miss my running days but injuries have made me too cautious to try. I have had surgery on my left Achilles and replaced my right ACL with repairs to the PCL and meniscus. For me running was my escape from a household where I was unwanted, neglected and abused. I look back now and wonder why no one ever questioned why an 8 yr old was running 3-5 miles a day to get out of the house.
 
that is great to read! It makes me wonder if I can run 10 miles. I have never run further than 3.10 miles. and that was a long time ago!
