Little I know, I really love him. Unconventional, solid, lived and worked with the very poor, took public transit, made his own meals, took care of a fellow priest with a disability, know I can relate to all of that. Washed and kissed the feet of those with HIV, apparently last year criticisized hypocrites in the church he said who forgot Jesus hung out with lepers and 'adulterers', and excluded no one, and that people who sought to belong in the church despite this were courageous. And said 'holiness is ordinariness', not reserved but instead care for one another (every person). Said he has spent a lifetime living and working for and with the very poor, the disenfranchised, those on the fringe. I understand that. People say that is the right thing to do, but most can't roll up their sleeves and choose it. He has strength in not running away from terrible suffering. I think he's a really good keeper, I'm proud of him.

Hope for the Catholic religion. A humble man well loved by anyone he came in contact with. I am hoping he will find a way to end all the sexual corruption and have all those accused brought to trial. They do not deserve to hide or be protected. The world will notice.

I have a feeling he would do nothing (or leave anything un-done), that he thought Jesus himself wouldn't do, or speak up on, regardless of consequences or whom he will upset. Which will create different enemies, of course, because if one believes it, then Jesus got crucified for doing the same. I think he's peaceful, and wants to find a better way, but I think he's as anti-establishment as he could be, in a very strong way. I think he'd never have lived the life he has if he wasn't.

I think I'm surprised that people are disappointed that he's not a "radical" who will change everything seen as "wrong" within the Catholic Church. Remember, he IS Catholic, they (obviously) promote from within and as such those who rise to power will not have views that radically differ from traditional church views. It's sort of along the same lines as people being shocked that a business that is touted for being closed on Sundays is anti-gay. Yes, that chicken place. Change takes time, especially in such z traditional setting.

He also apparently said that women have no business running for office etc...and there are indications that he may have been involved in the disappearances in Argentina back in in the '70s etc...So, (sadly) like many in his church, he seems to be the hypocrite...

I needed to quote your whole post, and sorry if this is long...

I'm from Argentina and I'm a Catholic. This man has been an example of humility to all of us for years.

The problem is that our government is becoming more and more similar to Venezuela's or Cuba's, and Begoglio (the Pope) has talked and acted in favor of the poor for years.

The government hates him and at first started saying these lies you are repeating (I don't mean you are a liar!) and even faking photos until they realized the people love him.

When he was a bishop he asked our president for a meeting 14 times and she never received him. 3 days ago she asked for a meeting and today he had her over for lunch. Now she's suddenly saying the government loves the Pope.

Lately, I'm ashamed of saying I'm from Argentina.

He may well have done good things with the poor and that's absolutely fantastic...As regards the other stuff...obviously, I can't say for sure either way; however, as far as I've been able to read, the allegations re the disappearances were brought before this government was in power in Argentina...As to whether it's too similar to Venezuela or Cuba...obviously that and whether that's a good thing or a bad is a matter of subjective, personal opinion in many ways. Of course, it's up to Argentinians to decide what kind of government they want etc. Having said that, (and this goes for both sides), the church and state must remain separate in any country claiming to be a democracy...though, of course, I'm well aware that there are often gaps betweent heory and practice, in more than one country, in that sense...

Also, the fact that much of Latin America has shifted to the left recently probably had something to do with his election, as the Vatican tends to meddle in these things more than it should.

Glad we have a new pope young or old this one looks like hes going to do some serious good which is what the church needs. We need someone who doesn't have his nose too far in the clouds. I don't say it with every pope but Viva La Papa. Hes already broken from tradition twice and was the runner up in the last Pope election. :)
