Hello,
I had my first two visits with emdr therapist and it's mainly just talking atm and asking me what I feel in my body when I mention certain things from the past. One thing she said while doing this is "the story doesn't really matter." I take that to mean something along the lines of what goes on in your body, is more important than what you say but does anyone else have a similar experience? Or can help explain what she means in your opinion?
Thanks!

I do emdr and the story matters to me, but I think what your T is saying is that you don’t have to tell her your story unless you want to. The emdr is a pathway to self healing, and look at your T as sort of a guide or supporter in the process. She does the Suds and that other scale to monitor where you are in your healing and the body sensations are part of that as well. I never quite understand why we name the body sensations. I think I will ask mine that next time we do it.

Mine said this too - in trauma recovery it doesn’t always matter what happened but how your body responds to it, from what I have gathered.
