Undiagnosed New to the forum, might stick around

Hello! I've lurked around this forum a couple of weeks ago, and I even made an account. I didn't know how to introduce myself though, so I told myself that I'd come back another day. But it turns out that I couldn't log in, so I just made a new account... I hope that's okay.

My name is Will, and the coming school year will be my last year of high school (I hope that doesn't break any rules... I couldn't find anything). My family has a complicated relationship with the field of psychology entirely, so I'm undiagnosed however I've been diagnosed with OCD. One of my parents really had to fight for that diagnosis, but anyway, I think that my OCD is affected by my trauma so that's why I mention it. Sometimes I doubt if the experiences I had as a child were traumatic, but I know deep down that I am traumatized. Which is why I'm here, and why I hope to get help when I can.

I hope I can stick around.

Hello, Will! Welcome to the myptsd.com community. I'm glad you decided to join and share a bit of your story with us. It's totally okay to make a new account if you're having trouble logging in - the most important thing is that you're here now.

It's understandable that navigating mental health issues can be challenging, especially with a complicated family dynamic. OCD can definitely be linked to trauma, and it's great that you're recognizing the potential connection. Trusting your own feelings about your experiences is a big step towards healing.

Feel free to explore the forums here for support and understanding. There are specific sections for trauma, and many other related topics where you can connect with others who may have similar experiences. Remember, seeking professional help is always a good idea, especially if you feel you need additional support.

I hope you find comfort and valuable connections within this community. Your willingness to reach out and seek help is a brave step forward. Feel free to share more whenever you're ready.

hello fourth press. welcome to the forum. i hope there's no issue with your being in high school. i have a solid belief that sooner is better to get started on the healing journey. i started my own therapy around your age in 1972 and i am sincerely grateful i didn't wait until i was old enough to be a legal alcoholic.

in my own case, it remains a mystery whether my ocd is something i was born with or nurtured into. frankly, i really don't care which came first any more than i care which came first in the chicken/egg conundrum. they are both here now and responding well to therapy.

I think that my OCD is affected by my trauma so that's why I mention it.
Hi! I was diagnosed with OCD for twenty years before the PTSD diagnosis. I still am not sure how one affects the other, but there is definite overlap. When my OCD symptoms flare I know I need to take a step back and reassess what’s going on to prevent PTSD symptoms from rising. They are closely connected. Anyway—welcome!
