HI,
I'm new to the forum just looking for any info, support out there. I originally started therapy for the first time for depression. I had some triggering stuff happen at work which blew up CSA I had never ever dealt with or spoken about and my therapist dx me with PTSD. I've been doing CPT but I'm just not sure if it's helping. My therapist said we might want to look at emdr, she thinks if I go deeper I'm going to get worse. I just want some relief at this point. I don't know what happened to me, I don't know who I am anymore.

Hey and welcome.
I'm really sorry you're going through tough stuff.
Sadly, your story is pretty common.
Similar thing happened to me, actually
There are definitely good reasons for not doing EMDR in a difficult emotional state, or other types of exposure therapy when you're already pretty emotional. They can end up making things worse, or they can be actually harmful.
I know this is a pretty broad question, but what do you want relief from?
Are there particular symptoms that are getting to you more than others?
There's no right or wrong answer, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach.
I know it's not for everyone, but getting medication in the early days just made everything so much more manageable for me. Other people find relief with meditation and yoga and stuff.
I'm glad you found this forum, we want to help you as much as we can.

Hi! Glad you found this forum. It is a great place for encouragement, education, support etc. You are not alone with in your CSA history, many of us can relate. Don't get discouraged with your therapy. It takes time to get better. Stick with it. And let us know how you are doing. We will be here to listen and help if we can.

@EveHarrington We haven't really talked about either one.

@Swift Thanks for the support. I can't sleep properly anymore. I either wake up after a couple of hours and can't go back to sleep or I have nightmares. I get triggered and start to sweat or want to just get the hell out of wherever I am. Work has been awful. I just can't seem even out.

Hello, and welcome :)

Bring up grounding and coping mechanism into your next session, then, if you like. Both can help you tremendously, and make healing much smoother and easier.

You have support here. Glad you found us

Before you jump into EMDR, it is a good idea to have a big toolbox of coping skills, especially since there is a worry that it will destabilize you.
