A few days ago I was so tired at bedtime. I sleep on my stomach and us special pillows because of my neck. Anyway, I layed on my stomach and went right to sleep quickly. Then I felt like there was a ton of cement on my back. I tried to move my arm and couldnt. My body was completely paralized. (more a sensation than dream) I worked at concentrating and was able to move in my sleep-that comforted me and so I went back or continued to sleep. Then I felt that pressure again and could not move. It was like death. Something was keeping my face down in the pillow and I was suffocating and could not move any part of my body. In my sleep state, I struggled to free myself. I focused hard on shoving one leg to the side of the bed. (seemed like a long time) but I got my limbs moving. I was able to get my whole body sitting on the side of the bed. At this point, I told myself it was a dream. I was still so tired and while I was afraid to repeat this, I wanted to sleep so badly. I smoked a cigarette to wake myself. Finally, I decided to sleep on my back and prop my neck with pillows. I went back to sleep and slept well. (usually could not sleep well in this position).
I feel like this is a really dumb question but....
Is this a nightmare? It was just a feeling of a ton of cement. I did not see anything frightening like a dream, it was all in sensation. I have had nightmares before but usually there is some visual like and a theme even if it doesnt make sense.
Years ago when ptsd was first mentioned, I had these paralized sensations. I got afraid to go to sleep even though I was very exhausted. If anyone has experienced anything like this would you please share your information with me.
