Normal Reaction To Meds?

I just started a new cocktail of meds a few weeks ago (100mg of Zoloft, 2mg of prazosin, and 15mg of mirtazapine). Before this I was only on the mirtazapine for depression. I’ve never been medicated before for PTSD though I have had it for nearly 12 years. I have always resorted to doing things like mountain biking , climbing, hiking, things like that to feed my need for adrenaline. I always feel the most alive when I partake in things like that. This past weekend was different. I did a mt. bike race and felt so dead. I had no rush that I normally do when I’m flying down a hill dodging trees and rocks… is this a normal as a result of the meds? Or could it be something else? I don’t think it’s the depression because I’ve been in this depressive episode for nearly a year and still felt the rush when I rode… any thoughts would be appreciated.

the side effects of so many of the sri drugs affected me in similar ways. No highs or lows, but I did have a stabilized mood, it just wasn't a good one. When I was concerned that I was going flat line, I would ask my doc to get me off the drug and then maybe try another. After dozens of attempts, I gave up and will not use another sri.

Just remember that there is a period of increasing effectiveness that you should wait through in hopes that it will work for you, and that there are severe withdrawals associated with some drugs that you want to avoid by following the docs recommendations when getting off them.

Hopefully you will find one that works for you.

Thanks for the info! It's funny how I can't remember all these questions when I'm sitting in the doc's office

I must say that I feel as though my light was turned off . I have been on my meds for almost 8 weeks and am constantly fighting the pros and cons of my medication. I have gone off once and could not cope and went back on but do not like the feeling of parts of me being lost and some parts of reality gone. I can suggest writing down your questions for your Dr. so that you do not forget them. I have mine ready and waiting for my next appointment.

Good luck
