My two big statements I get are the "I respect what you did for us" and the question "So did you kill anyone? I get the "wasnt really a war.." "we shoulda got Sadaam the first Gulf War when we could etc... etc.." and the ever popular "oh you were a medic, so you worked in a hospital then..."

It's almost like watching a replay of the evening news...

OHHHH!!!! My favorite.. "Have you ever seen (X) movie? My friend has a buddy who was there with (insert special forces unit name) and he said it is the most accurate war movie ever made... " lol.............. (and notice the dripping sarcasm with the periods)

Got hassled at the San Francisco airport the day I got back. "Babykiller" shit like that. Nobody spit on me. Too drunk to know it if they did. Tried to find work and got told that they wouldn't hire me cause I was in Nam and "everybody" knew that if you were in Nam, you were a heroine addict. Finally got a good job at a refinery but then got fired because I sat down next to a black man and had lunch and talked with him.

Said f*ck you, Mississippi and moved to Arizona. Whole different world. Got hired because I WAS a war Vet. Boss bent over backwards helping me and encouraging me to go to school, even if it meant losing one of his best foremen. Nobody called me names, altho' they did give me a wide berth because I was known for my bad temper.

That was forty-plus years ago and why I call Arizona home.

awesome Sarg... I took welding in HS... the instructor long retired had an American flag by the chalkboard.. (that never got used) ... every one of his students that joined the military he put a name band on there with the service... talked to a friend I graduated with way back then and my name is still there...

/rant Screw the haters... we got each other and the select few who choose to learn us... and gonna post on my own thread but been a long evening...

I have had people hate on me because I went to "cool" places they nor none of their friends did... the only problem is those places aren't where they wanna go.. at least now... or then even... although I imagine they can imagine themselves some sort of missionary going to spread peace...

I am a simple man... I did what I had to and got out... I am grateful for the military and what it gave me.. well cept for things like PTSD and my fused left wrist... but even more grateful they gave me the tools to get out and keep a high GPA in college (discipline)... to persevere in times of trouble (courage).... to be ever faithful (Semper Fi) to my family and friends... (honor)

While those pukes are sitting at Starbucks discussing the morality of Seal Team 6 going in and offing Bin Laden in a sovereign country "not affiliated with the war" my brothers are out there trying to stay alive..they can suck it... that's all I gotta say... I am sorry but I have yalls back and I know you have mine.. those would be the people "left behind" in my book...

And the saddest damn thing about it is all those long haired hippies are now running this country. They shed their beads and peace signs and now wear ties and suits and run Wall Street and banks and the government. They haven't the slightest idea what it means to sacrifice for their country, or how precious hard fought freedom is. They run around in beamers with telephones hanging out their ears, totally oblivious to the damage this nation has sustained in recent years.

sorry I got out of hand yall... didn't mean to take a light hearted thread and derail it... I am better today... I think the weekend had a lot to do with it.. Stan was my shipmate... ex Navy himself...

Lol you ever notice how many girls are dating someone who was an ex-seal or other spec ops? I know they guys are lying when they tell me "yes I was a navy seal" one if they said it it would just be seal.. most of them just avoid the convo altogether, one guy I was in medical hold at Bethesda was a SEAL and when we went out for a brew and someone asked him what he did he said "You know those orange handicap signs you see in parking lots? I paint those.. we have a union and everything!"

.. and I think I have met maybe 4 SEAL's outside of deployments... I think I have about 30 girl friends that within these last 5 yrs were dating a former "Navy SEAL" that percentage would put the SEAL's about as big as the Marines easily in numbers if you extrapolate it....

I called him on it. Told him he was stealing from men and women that died for this country. He still insists. I don't even talk to him anymore.

I was on a Master Mechanics course years ago here in Germany, and we had a guy who was just leaving the German Army, I Caught him telling a few lasses on the course he had been KSK (Kommando Spezialkrafte) while serving the German equivelent to the british SAS.

There was just something about the guy that just screamed NOT Special Forces, Well being in Munster it is still a Brit Army Garrison town, and we ended up in a Pub one evening. Sure enough he started swinging the Kerosin lamp and pulling up a sand bag, and was on about having been in Bosnia with the KSK. Low and behold the squaddies in the pub who I was chatting with were getting pissed off with this guy struting his stuff.

So one of the 1st Yorks guys get up goes over to him and gives him a mouthfull LMAO, The German guy actually considered raising his hand to the squaddie who promtly smacked him, sending to the floor. LMAO all you heard was the squaddie walking away saying "Guess you should of paid more attention on the Hand to Hand course" For the rest of the course he never spoke another word about being Special forces LMAO

I remember sitting in the Ramada Inn hotel bar waiting to go under the knife and get all the hardware taken out of my arm a few days later. My arm from just below the elbow down looked like a PC Board from a computer in an Xray... or maybe a Connectix construction kit.. Anyway there was this little kid standing at the end of the bar telling these college girls how he was a doctor at the Naval Hospital... He had taken my temp at the ortho clinic the day before and was an E-3 Corpsman... lol I let him go cuz the girls were stupid enough to believe him.. I don't know too many Doogie Housers that graduate Med school at 19...
