Odd Question about Ice Cream

Hi. This is a very unusual question to ask but I really need to know.

I was just wondering if anyone knew how long it would take for ice cream to melt. Where I live in Canada has no Basking Robbins in the entire province, and since I'm going to the States soon, I was planning on buying maybe a tub or two of ice cream. I know I can get ice cream anywhere, but it's just that I can't find my favourite flavour ice cream, which is Rocky Road, where I live. I checked all the places that sell ice cream and I can't find it. Well that's not fair, in the stores they sell rocky road ice cream, but it's not the real thing because the real Rocky Road ice cream should have marshmallows, but the ones in the stores have marshmallow swirl, which is NOT the same thing.

The problem I am facing is the time it will take from the Baskin Robbins to my house is going to be 8hrs 30mins, and I don't think the ice cream will make it.

So if there is anyone who knows how long it takes for a tub of ice cream to melt, or has suggestions for keeping the ice cream frozen or at least not make it turn into soup, please feel free to share?

Cooler + Dry Ice = Days

You can get dry ice from most grocery stores, but most grocery stores also require advance notice (of a few days, to a few weeks). Ice cream shops sometimes carry dry ice (they all used to, now few do), or can/will order it in for you. In both instances I’d recommend calling where you’re heading and asking them to either order some for you, or set some aside for you if you they “always” have it. <cough> If your luck runs anything like mine, it would be the ONE day I need it they run out

ETA... A good cooler and regular ice will usually keep frozen things frozen for abooooooout a day? It’s iffy. Better if it’s packed tight with frozen things and ice, and not opened, not even to peek. (I always peek. And drain water. And add ice.) And everything gets wet (double wrap in ziplock bags). But it should see you through 8 hours. Block ice will melt slower, but is either everywhere or nowhere. In a pinch, though, crushed ice is available at absolutely every grocery store and gas station down here, year round.

You’re definitely going to need something. On it’s own, you’ve got about twenty minutes before it starts going soggy, even in a cool atmosphere. A little longer and it’s liquid. Ice cream is about the worst food substance I know of for keeping frozen, (I work in retail).

Yup dry ice.
U can go to seafood market or sushi ask for big styrofoam box.

If u can put styrofoam box inside cooler that be great along with dry ice.
Sounds like you are very dedicated to this adventure. If it was me i would worry of making pitstops to mmmmmm yummmy yummmmy and then drive again.

I miss rocky road too.
At shoppers drugmart or superstore there is PC brand flavour called Moose Trail.

My naughty brain says buy a plug freezer cooler from big box corporation store with a great return policy....and return after.

We are losing Red Robins too here in Canada. I wonder is they are related
