So the other day, my Vet and I were talking about animals because we've been watching the show Zoo on Netflix and he couldn't understand for the life of him why they weren't shooting the animals. He then went into detail about how he was part of "Operation Scooby" and how they cleaned up the streets of Fallujah of feral animals (cats and dogs mostly) by shooting them.

Curiously, I noticed he has a pretty big distaste for my dog. Yes, my dog is annoying and yes, she has accidents. She's also five pounds and jumps on everything. She's a Papillon. If you know what one is, then I'm sure that pretty much explains the annoying part...lol. But anyways, is there anyone else on here that has had their Vet be part of Operation Scooby and what are the things you have noticed about the Vet's treatment of animals???

My vet is an animal lover but he mentions shooting feral dogs in Afghanistan regularly as a necessity. It doesn't seem to have affected his love of dogs - we have two and I think he prefers them to me in a lot of ways! Dogs never complain when you yell at them and they don't ask if you still love them or if they look fat in this outfit! ;)

My dad on the other hand was involved in an incident during his service when his convoy of trucks hit a pack of Cape Hunting Dogs. The others didn't want to stop but dad (who was the officer) insisted that they put all the injured dogs they could find out of their misery. There were a heap of pups and the guys, including dad, had to go around crushing their heads with the butt of their rifles. He's pretty much avoided getting attached to animals for 40 years. He recently softened to a cat who he now showers with affection much to the family's surprise.

My vet hunts and has no problem killing animals he wants to kill. But he sobbed like a baby for hours when our mare had a stillborn foal.

Isn't it strange??? The Vet seems to HATE my dog. But soon as we walk in, he pets her. But then I get a tirade all weekend about how bad she is. She's bad. She poops and pees to mark territory. I've given him COUNTLESS examples of how Papillons are notoriously hard to train, how they are EXTREMELY needy dogs and how they are basically a lap dog. To him, she's useless.

But then again... I also get "Operation Scooby" tidbits while the dog is over. I work 55 hours a week. My dog needs attention too. I bring the dog or I don't stay the night. It's one or the other because I cannot neglect the dog cuz he gets pissed over a tinkle of a five pound dog. Her poop is the size of tootsie rolls. Her pee a silver dollar. And yes, she has AT LEAST ONE accident a weekend. I put her outside on the regular but I'm not good at predicting because he has a domesticated rabbit that freely roams the house. Sometimes the dog will mark where rabbit has been.

Anyhow, I view this as an inappropriate response to the brevity of the situation. You get a tootsie roll sized poop on the tile floor in the laundry room. Nothing to lose your mind over when the rabbit also marks his territory with Bunny turds. They both do it.

But Bunny isn't a dog that he had to shoot in a combat situation. Bunny can be food. Most people don't eat dog. I think Operation Scooby messed him up. Maybe if they ate them, it could be justified in his mind. But no, they dug mass graves and buried people's pets. That's gotta be hard. I know it would EFF me up. :(

Lol - my vet expects dogs to behave no worse than soldiers. Our dogs know exactly where to poop, where to lie down and where to eat. Minimum standards are required to be met at ALL times. When we met I had little dogs and I kept them outside because one in particular was prone to accidents. He let them into the house one day when I was at work. Then freaked out because the tiny one (chihuahua x mini foxy) did a tiny turd on the kitchen floor. :roflmao:

PS - I don't think the animals they shot were pets as we think of them. My vet says he never saw an Afghan pat a dog or show any affection towards animals. (Except for that one guy who f*cked his donkey every morning. No word of a lie.)

My vet has a dog thing too. They regularly had to shoot dogs in Iraq. They roamed in packs and barked at patrols, giving them away. He said he had probably shot hundreds of dogs.

My vet says the same thing about Iraqis. He said he never saw a dog in an Iraqi house or saw an Iraqi feed a dog. He said they were all German Shepherds or mixed with Shepherd. Evidently that was the "sanctioned" breed there. They were skinny, skanky, and feral, running in packs from neglect.

He was a dog lover before. It messes with him a lot. I had a big dog, who recently passed. He would get very bent out of shape at times if I was overly affectionate to her or "talked to her like a person." He has a "dog thing" now and really dislikes German Shepards.

I've definitely heard the same.

Same. He is very hard on his own dog because he has very high expectations.

Mine tells a story of a group of pups they brought in under their wing. I don't know how much of it was allowed (I think he said it was against the rules) but they pups all got killed in a blast. Never thought about a connection between combat and animal treatment. Interesting.
