She sees you as "dominant cat". I have had cats for 30+ years and much their social structure stuff still escapes me. 9 months now I have been trying to figure out which if the girls is dominant. When they play with their favorite toy...one suddenly stops and the other starts.Cat. Please. After you. No, no. I insist.
I may have to physically leave the house for a few days, if I want the problem dealt with.
Some cats just don't want to be dominant though....my Mittens was like that. Her an Spooky fought a pitched 3 month battle and Mittens won, but when she did - she kinda went "well - this is what I was fighting for?" and Spooky took over again. Mittens was a lot like your cat though - so sweet, and polite. Miss her....
