Our Future With AI

The only reason laws might have a chance is because of celebrities

And generally only people who make money off their faces or voices will be protected.

Not in the near future, but I think the trend to self-corporatize, to make oneself into a brand (the kids call it an aesthetic), means that society is moving in that direction. Laws to protect rich people from shitty things flow slowly down to the dirty plebes. AI will speed up the process of being swallowed by the spectacle. Wonder what’s on the other end?

Yer, I agree. Art will be enhanced by AI, but right now, its not imaginative. The future, unknown, but now, AI art sucks without human influence.
I just fell down an AI Art rabbit hole…

Want a portrait of yourself or a loved one in the style of Nicholas Hilliard? Klimt? Da Vinci sketch? Botticelli? Ansel Adams? Norman Rockwell? (About 1,000 historic and modern artists “styles” with reference work in some libraries). Upload a series of pics both candid & posed, or short videos. Then select the tone/emotions (mischief, serious, alluring, bored, inspiring) for both the person AND the piece… select a few dozen other things (indoors/outdoors, moving/still, add animal, images in LACE collar to be used if it’s an Elizabethan artist, idealized/warts & all, etc.) some just general, some specific to the artist and their style… et voila! The image is rendered. With the elements you’ve chosen, in the style of that artist. It’s. AWESOME. And flawless. (Rather than bizarre like your face on the Mona Lisa, nor collage-y; because none of your reference material nor the artist’s reference material is actually duplicated.).

There are quite a few art companies competing right now, and it’s really obvious that some sites have better AI’s than others. So I think I’ll wait a couple years, but I’m excited to get some “Hilliard” miniatures, as well as a few others. My grandmother & wwii nurses, instead of dancers, in “Degas”. My mom in her 20’s all glowing by “Vermeer”.

It’s gonna be fun.

Like having a Time Machine & the authoritwa to say “You! Sit! You! Paint!” 🤣

Fun, yes!! Original artworks? - more like, customized artworks to order.

Though I was likely born with some artistic ability, I’ve struggled to better my drawing and painting skills over the years. I’ve also learned that this practice involves the development of a personal visual language. And without this uniquely personal visual language (or my intentional statements), it’s impossible to create original art.

To mimic another artist’s style is actually very easy so, of course, AI can mimic. However, if AI has any unique artistic style of its own, this would likely be its very blatant distortions and awkwardness.

Would AI even recognize its own actions. errors and modifications when creating art. Would AI know when it had achieved its desired goal - perhaps, when it would run out of paint or when its programmer has orders it to stop painting.

There are life experiences involved in the creation of artworks that AI has never experienced.

I expect that if a self-aware AI was creating its own art? (Which seems to be what your sticking point is? That it’s not original?) Humans wouldn’t be able to see/understand it, as limited as our visual field is, just for starters, (not to mention lifespan) as supercomputers can parse in a microsecond what would take a human person years, if not centuries, to read. So self-aware AI original art is just as likely to be a several billion nanosecond’s worth of data, spanning the spectrum of data types (audio, visual, radiological, etc.) repeated in a pattern of musical equations, in a refracting Fibonacci sequence, in the ultraviolet spectrum, on alternating eclipses, following the degrade pattern of a particular dying star, with sonar counterpoint, and a chemical cascade ascending, reminiscent of increasing mass… ya know? The same way we would use cerulean blue, ultramarine, cobalt, etc. to produce different effects.

Me? Having seen the absolute SHITE that art students put out when they’re tasked with doing subject A in artist B’s style… am thrilled with the idea of having portraits done by ghosts. The end result is what matters to me, not philosophical artistic integrity. Good forgers are insanely expensive, as they’re exceedingly rare. I could never hope to afford them. I also cannot afford current AI Art-In-The-Style… but I shall. 🤩

Which AI are you using for this @Friday ?

I hear about image and video deepfakes using AI...

So the other day, I thought "Hmm, I know... I have a task AI can help.me with...!"

The student that I tutor had 5 handwritten pages of notes that I wanted to type up...

Went to ChatGPT and it told me it couldn't work on images ... I had thought that asking to transcribe it would be a really simple task...

Been talking to ChatGPT about history and philosophy a lot lately. I learn so much more and quicker than I could using Google and Wikipedia alone. I can talk about complex ideas and synthesize topics, but it sort of feels like talking to a friend that always agrees with you, but is also super smart. Also been using it to create meal plans based on what foods I have or are want to eat. Also using it to create travel itinerary. I feel pretty certain that within ten years it will be as ubiquitous and necessary for everyday life as cellphones. I think people will get smarter quickly but there will be a plateau and then our minds will have sort of synthesized with it. So we will be sort of hybridized but mostly in the way that we are already hybridized with technology.

There was a recent update where they are now streamlining monetization and personalization. It used to be that it would randomly cut you off after a number of interactions. Now there is a definite limit to what it remembers about you. You can delete memories. Or pay for more memory slots.

Weird. I use it for transcribing randomly when I want to quote something. Just to see if it is still working I loaded a note I got from my youngest daughter 10 years ago. It decided to proofread (i.e. wich to which) and add in missing words (i.e. is after which). It made a few mistakes like wildest should be weirdest and her name ends with an A not an E, but of course it is handwritten. I don’t know if that helps.

Am “reading”/learning The Analects by Confucius with the help of Chat GPT. It dawned on me that ancient and old texts are all available online, meaning that Chat GPT can easily access them. So I asked it to go through the analects with me in the order they are written down. Chat GPT gives me one without commentary and then I summarize it for feedback or we unpack it. If I don’t understand, it can give me alternative translations or cultural and historical perspectives. This will be an ongoing discussion.

Chat GPT organizes discussions and you can search your discussions to pick up where you left off. It also provides references now, which are mostly real—lol—the hallucinations are almost endearing to me at this point. I don’t need it to be perfect, omniscient, just like I don’t need people to be—what it gives me is good enough and when it makes mistakes we address them in a satisfactory way.

I’m guessing the same is true for lawyers using it for case review, or scientists using it for research review—it’s generally good enough and the mistakes can be discovered and fixed or ignored.

I’m not asking for the secrets of the universe or perfect truth, just discussing stuff from literature and history—chat gpt provides perspectives and background—and encourages me with my learning!
