Our Pets

The night I got my dog was the night I stopped crying myself to sleep. The night that the uncontrollable flashbacks calmed down, and that I got a full night sleep.

He is a little dog, only 8 lbs, but with him next to me I feel somehow protected and safe, I have an extra pair of ears so I can be a bit less on guard all of the time. I'm just amazed at how much was relieved once I got my dog :)

I just read an article about the 20 good reasons to have a dog. One is that they seem to sense when you are hurting. That they are empathetic. I think the same about cats. In my adult life, I went briefly without my pet due to circumstances beyond my control, but I was so sad to come home to nothing. They help me feel loved.

My youngest son's cat has been spending a lot of his interest on my oldest son as of late. Oddly so. He is definitely my youngest's cat. I wonder if he realizes my oldest needs a little tlc right now. He is definitely cheering him up.

May have already shared this, but my spotted grey tabby Grace has developed the habit of stepping on the off button on my c-pap machine when she thinks it's time for me to wake up. Not a pleasant sensation, but pretty clever.

Crystal has figured out she gets her medicine every other day, and has to eat first. So when she is put in the bedroom she eats the food and then has begun hiding under the bedding so she won't have to take the pill. The first time she did this my husband argued with me as to whether or not she was still in the room... and in exasperation he sat down on the bed, and her. She is feeling well enough to want to avoid getting her pill and it's a game of hide and seek now.

@The Albatross We break up our dogs pill and put it in her food dish. She has, not very often, managed to eat around it, but she usually eats it. I wonder if that will help your dog? Or wrapping it in american cheese, though any cheese would do. She's a smart pup.

There was a noise at the patio door. Our cat was sleeping on the couch, the noise continues and she wakes up and jumps off the couch. I thought that maybe she would run the other way but she belly-crawls over to the door and then looks around the window before sitting down in front of the door and watching.

I realized that she realizes that this is her house. And that she will protect her home.

She is still watching the door/window 20 minutes later.
