Our Pets

The rats are pure cuteness. The youngest (and fastest), Lightning, is 5 weeks old and can sleep inside my hands. Thunder is three months old, and full-grown. Right now they're both on me, crawling around inside my hoodie or on my shoulders. Lightning's trying to get stuck in my hair or something cx

Ratty pics, please? I adore them, they're the best pets EVER! I'm allergic so I can't have anything like that. :(

This is Hamlet, my giant puppy.

I got him early this year when he was four months old. His owner was not fit to raise a powerful puppy and could no longer house him. The man who was interested in buying him wanted to use him as a fighting dog, even though Hamlet has no fight in him or dog aggression.

Instead he got a wonderful home with lots of friends here with us! :)

He turns one year old this week.

Took Molly for her shots today. Was told by vet that she was not even 12 weeks old yet. So they would not give her a rabbies shot. Just wondering if a 4th round of shots would be a good idea due to her age. This a low cost vet clinic and as far as they concerned she is done other than her rabbies shot in a week or 2.
A fourth round of shots? I can't see why that would be necessary. I think the three rounds are done that way because they somehow build on each other, or that was the impression I always got I guess.

Usually rabies shot isn't until six months? There's no rush for many of the shots that are commonly recommended for young puppies. I don't do shots for bordatella, for instance, but I would if I planned on boarding my dogs or putting them in daycare. The DHLPPC one is the biggest when they're really young.

I got some good news about my rescue bearded dragon. Herman has been having some kidney issues because of the malnourishment and negligent conditions he had lived in before I got him. It's been a long road of oral meds, fluid injections and monthly vet visits.

Well now we have the kidney issues under control. He can go into the vet seasonally for monitoring and he can go off the fluids. Yay for a healthy long life for this sweet little guy.

My rescue, who I still say is a foster... has tested healthy and has no sign of the owner. He was treated at the clinic yesterday and apparently my mister took his photo, showed him around and he is ready to adopt him. I'm harder to convince... and am still saying foster.

A wise friend had me look at American Staffordshire Terrier... and listened closely to what I was saying about his size. I'm checking it out.

Ripley is though a calm/contemplative dog... and quite the sofa/bed buddy.

More damn fireworks again last night. In the past 3 weeks we have only had one quiet night.

We have a small room at the back of the house, we use it as a bar and sun room. I put the heater on, some loud music, then we all sit in there. I refer to it as our safe room and the dogs feel happier in there. Then it is distract dog time either by dancing with the dogs or playing with a toy. Max also likes to be brushed.

It's terrible when your pets are so scared of fireworks, @KP the nut . My dog gets absolutely terrified, too. He can get so afraid that he's literally shaking. He doesn't know what to do or where to go. Sometimes he climbs all the way into my lap up onto my shoulders and continues his shivering there. :(

But here's a pic of him in a better mood. He was allowed on my old bed at my parents' house for one time. He felt right at home.
