I had some extracurricular dentistry done at one point... So I trigger hard with dental work of any kind.
That said, pain should be better afterwards than before. It clears out the infection, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories stomp on the remainders of it, and then a day or three of pain killers while the bone & soft tissues heal. More than 3 days of pain usually means the infection is still up and running. Pain should subside each day. If you luck out, it'll be gone by tomorrow.
Same token... If it was an infected tooth? You may find you head/neck/shoulder pain subsides, and if it was a badly infected tooth, expect to lose about 10lbs/5kg or a belt hole or two, and feel a lot more awake & energetic. An abscess in your mouth that needs a root canal can have your immune system running flat out for weeks/months if they don't go septic. That kind of running means gaining a lot of water weight, swollen belly, lethargy. So hang tight, bro. You may be feeling one whole helluva lot better here real soon.
