When i was a teenager there was this guy I had opened up to on the internet about my dad and he ended up finding out my address and kept insisting I move away with him, that he wouldn't let up.

I am incredibly protective over things like location, phone number, email address, any kind of personal information.

Is this ok? Or am I just being slightly paranoid?

I agree with @Stickler better to be safe than sorry. I don't give out my cell phone number, I don't tell people where I live only my work address for package delivery and do my best to never input my home address on the internet. When I was in college I started receiving letters addressed to me from a man that was in the state prison system. I was terrified and went to the police one of the few times I have and they contacted the prison he was in and he was no longer allowed to send anything to me or with me mentioned in it. One of the few positives of the prison system is that their mail is screened for reasons like this.

When it comes to the internet I usually keep my location vague. I've had one person track me down, but they haven't been able to again. I've been getting sloppy lately, but it's enough unless someone is really determined, and even then, my location is still obscured.

I think that keeping where you are hidden from others online is a sensible precautionary measure these days. But again, we're on what forum? PTSD does lend itself to being particularly guarded, so we might all agree that it's sensible, the same way we'd all choose a booth in the corner, with our backs to the wall so we can see all the entrances/exits. :P
