Hi everyone, I was really glad to find this forum.

My boyfriend of 2 years is a PTSD sufferer. His condition has to do with some trauma he experienced when his first wife left him 15 years ago (he attempted suicide and was put in a psych hospital).

Anytime there is stress in our relationship he starts having nightmares and I feel helpless.

Now we are having some serious relationship issues and he is making threats of suicide if I leave. He refuses to get counseling. He says he just wants me to stay. I am terrified and sick and confused and about ready to give up.

Sorry if that's TMI for my introduction, I sought out this forum because I am in need of support and answers.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. You will find great support and information. Stay safe. It does sound like professional help is needed anytime someone is talking of suicide.

Thank you. Just looking for advice on how to get through this difficult time. The bad thing is, he keeps changing his mind about wanting me around. It's that "come here, go away," and "I hate you, don't leave me," syndrome. He wants me to leave. I make plans to leave and he panics. I love him to death but it's so damn confusing for me. As I said, he won't get counseling.

I just need help.

Hi Beadchick,

At this point, determine what is best for you and do it. There is a lot of helpful information here and support as PTSD is extremely difficult on everyone.

Take care.
Debbie

Welcome to the forum Beadchick. Debbie has given some very important suggestions, you are not alone in this dilemma. Take the time to read a few articles and posts from other spouses - in the supporter's section of the forum.

I think if he is threatening suicide, it is best to call in the professionals and get him recommitted for observation. Then, DO WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU! He needs help, bad. And if he is refusing to get it and you stay, you may end up as his victim. That will not help either of you.
