If someone uses "mansplaining" in a method that is other than a man explaining something to woman something she already knows in a patronizing way-they're using it the wrong way. That's what the term actually means. If you had said to me that "feminists were just a bunch of men haters, what could I know about it?" that would be mansplaining.
"Manspreading" is when men stretch their legs out as far as possible to take up as many seats as possible. It's pretty basic, and it's only got "man" in it, because men do it more than women do. It's generally just discourteous, especially on cowded buses and trains. That being said, at the end of a long day I've been guilty of it, because I do the "puppet strings cut/trying to melt into floor" slump. Feet being spread is the only thing that keeps me from crumpling to the floor, but on crowded public transit, you wanna bet I try and take up as little space as possible, because that's just courtesy.
Toxic masculinity is when "man up" is used. Because men are human. It's the thing that talks about how men are rapists but can't be raped. It's about how men abuse women yet can't be abused. How men are supposed to hate "talking about it" and never do it. How men are supposed to punch their problems and never ever be affected emotionally. It's about how men as dads do nothing, and women are the only homemakers and caregivers. It's snickering at male nurses and teachers.....It's all the traditional roles that make men feel shitty about being human.
That's why men need feminism. Because that kind of attitude is killing men *and* women.
