Sufferer Ptsd After Husband's Affair

Hi,
I am not trying to be rude, but being cheated on cannot cause PTSD as it does not meet criterion A...

You never know how it feels to be cheated on unless you go through it. It's terrible and causes ptsd

If you want to continue telling yourself that an affair can cause and has caused you PTSD you are not doing your brain any service. If this is a diagnosis you want keep at it. So bloody sad that people want this craphole of a disorder.

I would totally get a second a third or even a tenth opinion if this was actually diagnosed by a profesional.

Geez this makes me bloody angry.

The thing is they DON'T want the disorder, nor would they know what to do if they had it. They want to be validated in their pain, they want to be able to say "no, this was so bad that I have PTSD".

It's a function of misunderstanding of mental illness on a societal level and the diagnosis being trendy in mental health over the past few years. There really should be a disorder for the people who always crop up here with this bs though.

Where have you got that from? Do you have the evidence for this? Because I would really like to see the science you are basing this on. Do you understand what PTSD is? Being cheated on may be terrible. It does not cause PTSD. Anyone who tells you it does is a con person after your money.

My psychiatrist just added Abilify to my meds, and I'm worried about taking it, about what it says about my mental health. I have a call in to him to ask more, But I completely understand the woman's point of view, if her husband had never done what he did, the PTSD would never have been triggered.
You can't 'trigger' PTSD. If you have a psychiatrist who is telling you that and is telling you that you have PTSD because your spouse made bedroom eyes at someone else and you were reminded of your father's infidelity, that is complete BULL. Yes I would be worried about being put on Abilify or whatever meds this psychiatrist has you on. Seek another opinion. Because if this psychiatrist has diagnosed you with PTSD based on that criteria he/she is a con person. And put you on unnecessary meds. If you have another condition and need meds then you should have been explained that. But you cannot have PTSD so get a second opinion.

Actually this is really worrying. Are there actually psychiatrists telling women who have been cheated on they have PTSD and putting them on meds? I mean these women are coming on here saying a psychiatrist has told them this. Maybe shouldn't laugh at them but try and suggest they do get second opinions, they are in a vulnerable state after being cheated on so if a medical professional is taking advantage of that. That is really concerning.
