Hello all-
I am new to these forums. I'm sure I'm like many in that I'm searching for answers or insights.
I have a parent that has been diagnosed with PTSD as of 8 months ago. My children and I live with my parents, for various mutually practical reasons, and have for 3 years now. I will certainly be reading as much as I can on these forums over the next few days, but I thought I might reach out to anyone that is raising children in a household that has been deeply affected by PTSD for advise and support.
I am at a loss as to how to continue to be a good parent to my children AND care for a sufferer as sometimes they feel extremely exclusive. It often feels like there is another child that needs caring for now, but my parent is not a child. I do not know how to respond when they are ruminating (sp?) or being verbally aggressive. My parents see a marriage therapist, and the sufferer sees both a psychiatrist and psychologist for meds and therapy. I'm not sure what to do for the kids and myself though. It truly feels like we live in a war zone most of the time.
Thanks in advance,
Tam
