I've just been informed my fourth poem is to be published in a local magazine! One step closer to being a paid poet. :)

Congratulations Aine!!!

I personally think art in any form (including writing) is a pretty harmless and healthy way of getting out our feelings. If you can make a living expressing yourself more power to ya!

Congratulations On Being Published!

That's super-cool Aine. :occasion: IHMO - poetry is one of - if not the - most difficult art form there is. Thumbs up :thumbs-up and best wishes for your continued success!

Awesome work Aine. Are you allowed to share it here once it is published? Or can you tell us where to find it?

Maybe a lil bit of useful info for ya Aine - in relation to copyright and intellectual property. Basically - the second you write something you own the copyright to it. It's established the second you create it. Any issue that might arise would only happen if someone challenged you. If you don't have the people around you to make you feel a lil safer in 'sharing' your work without fear of it being stolen (and haven't already officially had the copyright registered - the most iron clad way legally) there's an easy and inexpensive way to get around this. Seal a copy of your work in an envelope and have it mailed to yourself. DO NOT open the envelope. Just keep it sealed.

Basically this is because - if at sometime later than the date on the envelope somebody said 'no I wrote that' you can produce an unopened and dated enveloped (dated prior to the claim) which establishes you had it first, etc. It's not the most solid or professional way to go about it - but it's a backup! I know what artists are like with their work. They will protect it like it's their child or something. At the same time - if you get overprotective then nobody sees it. That said, yes you may have an agreement with the magazine that you can't publish 'for all to see' elsewhere.

Just some information you might find a bit handy if you choose to pursue this kind of work. Hope you find it useful in the future and keep writing :)

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your wonderful and supportive comments :)

AdamAnt: my next goal is to have a collection of 50 poems fully edited and ready for submission to an agent by October. I'm definitely more of a spoken word poet but a lot of the poems I write can transfer from page to stage quite easily and vice versa, which I think is a good thing :)

Nicolette: I'm perfectly happy to share it here once it's published or, if the editor has an online version of the magazine, point you in that direction. It's a fairly new magazine so the editor won't mind at all.

superjen: Thanks for the advice :) I tend to safeguard my poetry by not posting it in places where it's likely to be ripped off (i.e. sites like DeviantArt) and I mostly perform, so it's probably the easiest way to prevent any one from ripping it from me, in my case. I'll keep your suggestion in mind though, it's not one I'd thought of before.

Thank you again everyone.
I'll update you once it's been published :)
Love and Light,

Aine.
