I don't think that the Purple Heart should be given for PTSD. There are ways to tell if combat PTSD has debilitated someone. Physical wounds are always going to be easier to prove debilitating. As for proving mental health effects of combat just look at records, observe the person, ask the same questions in different ways. If they are truly debilitated it will show. I have paperwork and awards that state I have not only killed in combat but lead soldiers in hazardous duty as well. That doesn't prove I have PTSD but it sheds some light on the diagnosis.
