News Sandusky Found Guilty!

Edmund Burke said "All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." Or something like that. The man who caught Sandusky in the showers with the boy could have physically beat the turds out of Sandusky. He could have called the police right there - surely he had a cell phone.

As for Sandusky, like most pedophiles, his feelings of righteousness in what he did says it all: he feels no shame, no remorse.

While not all jocks are rapists, no not even most - there is a testosterone laden mentality in the sports world that fuels sexual aggression and predation, and a cohesiveness that makes them stand up for each other. But it is also seen in gangs - so perhaps it is that certain types of males bond, egg each other on, and thus we find people like Sandusky being protected.

If he gets off after appeal I should hope someone would hunt him down and do the right thing, because Mr. Sandusky himself will never do the right thing.

Girl3, I would say that although this pedaphile got caught and shielded within the sports part of the University, my experience it that was happening in the psychology end and the same "code of silence" was established. Money is money is money for institutions and children are simply problems that can be dealt with in if there are enough heads put together to do so.

I know I never said anything until years later but someone must have at one time because when I was younger for our family to have had to move so immediately one year. Predators are typically not unorganized in my experienced and it can take years, if ever, to get caught.

Now we are seeing just how many knew of this ones behaviours, how many years, and how disposable they truly believed these boys were all in the name of $$$$. It makes me sick!!

Srain, I understand how you fell. I wish I would stop reading this story because it causes so many different emotions in me.
"One of the victims had quoted as saying "who would believe a child?"..that is what I have lived with my whole life..and prosecutor said "we would!" " God help these survivors. They have a long journey of recovery ahead of them. I am so glad they are getting justice, but that's just one piece of the whole pie.

I am considering getting a copy of the Freeh report and learning how the coverup happened at the U. Maybe I should suggest to our U president that we have a workshop on it - kind of an FAA accident debriefing kind of thing. Our U is pretty good about this kind of thing. (We dumped our football program a couple of years ago, and our b-ball program, while problematic, doesn't get a total pass...) and we do well on sexual abuse stuff. But this case was a bit different as it didn't involve any students - only staff and admins. And that is an area we don't look at much, so far as I know....

Having been sexually abused by male members of the athlete club - all of them older - some of them MUCH older - they do feel 'privileged' and they do not feel guilty. But perhaps all pedophiles feel the same way...

If anyone knows about such behaviors they should act immediately FOR the benefit of the child. And I say know as in you've seen the behavior or you've seen enough to make any normal person suspicious.

They removed a statue of Joe Paterno for the victims. I am amazed at the things they are finally doing. After all of the years of cover ups, they are finally doing some things for the victims. The victims were so brave to come forward and testify. I imagine that there were way more victims, but could not come forward for their own reasons. I am glad the college is finally cleaning up their act.

The NCAA sanctions were announced today--a $60 million fine that will instead fund advocacy and treatment of abuse victims, reduction in scholarships (and ability to attract players), and a ban from Bowl games for a few years. More importantly, I think, they vacated the championships they won (111 total) during the years staff knew about the abuse. Basically saying, you cannot win at any cost. I hope that all of the consequences and publicity will help others decide to act to protect children in the future.

I hate his arrogance after the verdict, his complete denial, and his qualifier that he has done so much good for the community.

Then there is his wife who has stuck by him, despite the evidence. She has even berated her adopted son for his confession, saying he was always troubled but his confession was the last straw. Lady, you aren't innocent in all this. I'm thinking there was a reason behind his troubled life.

This wasn't a conspiracy Mr. Sandusky. Accept your punishment and apologize to the victims.
