Scary Reaction To Versed?

You do not have to be put to sleep or have to use Versed in order to get your wisdom teeth removed!! I was awake while they removed my first two. They just gave me an oral anesthetic to numb me while they took them out. I didn't feel any pain except for being sore after. I would look into this dentist...it seems as though he doesn't care to actually help. I hope you're doing alright, the experience you had sounds very traumatic. I'm sorry you had to go through that. No one deserves that ever.

That depends on the positioning of the teeth. Mine had to be surgically removed - that meant cutting down deep into the gum and getting them out ( as there was insufficient space in my mouth for them to come through). I had all four done at the one time and the dentist would not consider anything other than a general anaesthetic.

it keeps you awake but erases your memory for the next hour or so, at least that's my understanding of the drug

I had Midazolam (AKA Versed) for a gynaecological procedure in the UK. It was horrific. I was paralysed but entirely awake. I could not cry, shout or move but I felt everything and it was excruciatingly painful. The doctor said afterwards that had I indicated pain they would have given me more - but I was unable to. Once I was able to move I just sobbed inconsolably and they could not understand why. I have vowed never to have the drug again. I too had been told it removes memory of the event, but my memory is crystal clear and in the trauma bank.
