Self-care / Self-soothing On-the-go

Tactile things help me the most, my hands distract me from my head. Petting or squeezing a stuffed animal helps for the tough spots. The keychain sized one isn't as effective as a hand-size one, but if I'm worried about people judging or thinking I'm crazy, it'll do. As a preventative, I knot threads into friendship bracelets. It's a pocket-size project and really helps with waiting rooms. I get hypervigilant about every movement or sound if my hands aren't busy. Playing games on my phone didn't help, but I'm okay if I'm tying bracelets.

Some great ideas here. My t said the other day that my ability to self soothe needs a lot of improvement! I've found colouring very helpful in the past, and I just found a whole lot of mandala printouts to colour. Should get on that. I should find a colouring app for my phone ...

Cool, I love to color!!!! My grandmother taught me how when I was a kid, she'd say, "Now pick any color you like and don't worry if you get outside the lines," and then she would proceed to color along with me and would post my pics on the refrigerator.

I enjoyed those times so much and think that coloring would be an excellent way for me to self-sooth. Thank you for bringing it up!!!

Peace,
Lion
