I was under the impression that if I experience unwanted thoughts, etc = There is something wrong with me = I'm crazy.

And you're saying it is not true. Now that's a relief!

I've never been aware of unwanted thoughts until after the relationship with a Sociopath. I guess I don't really understand PTSD and was afraid to use the label as an excuse in respect to where it was warranted so I blamed myself instead.

One of the "hallmarks" of PTSD is avoidance...which at its core is the avoidance of uncomfortable feelings. So staying present through the chaos is a huge part of how to work through them, because there's no way to work through what we can't even stay present with. Little by little...piece by piece.
