It's a shame that you can't hug them after a verdict like this.

I'm not sure of what your story is, but this is fantastic news, and gives me hope that sometimes justice really does prevail. I'm so happy for you. xx

I just wanted to add a note. While this sentence may seem very severe, there were mitigating circumstances.

My ex has a long criminal history of crimes he has been charged and convicted for against this family. At times I felt the criminal justice system was a revolving door. I would contact the police, work with the investigators, go to trial as a witness, watch him be convicted, and then sentenced very lightly. However, no one should ever give up and when the law is violated pursue it.

It was these past convictions that weighed heavily during the sentencing process. He very easily could have received concurrent sentences for all charges and been looking at 20 years with eligibility for parole after 10. Finally this judge saw the history of escalation, and the damage, fear and desperation of this family.

For all fighting legal battles, please don't give up.

I'm smiling broadly for you and your girls!

Justice.... faith and persiverence. Whether you believe in people, God, or simply Karma, justice is something that is as natural as breath. I'm so very glad that you were able to recognize the justice and be a part of it, for so many are unaware of it in the end. You stood strong, and you pushed it along; good for you! You are a role model for all women who suffer at the hands of evil. Be proud that you have shown your girls what real strength is!

Whether it be in the courts, in the prisons, or in the wind; justice always prevails. My abuser died of breathing complications after forcing violent and painful oral sex where I was unable to breathe, and thought I might suffocate. They say that life and the world are not fair, but I tend to think it is.

I tend to agree with Meli. My father literally lost everything after he hit me and kicked me out of home where I was forced to go to a DV shelter, after I wigged out from abruptly stopping my meds and only about a month after I'd been sexually assaulted. He lost his house, his mother and brother to cancer and alzheimers (in the same year), he lost his wife, and the dog (on christmas) all his friends abandoned him and his business had to be liquidated. I think the scales balance themselves out, eventually.
