Seroquel - Should I Go For It Tomorrow?

This is the only time I've heard of apathy with Seroquel. Would it be alright to assume that Seroquel just isn't the right treatment for your apathy, rather than it being a side effect?

I was prescribed this last week 100mg to start with and I have stopped taking it. I rang for advice as it was knocking me out, I was feeling like was drunk, walking all over place nearly falling etc. I was told just had put up with it as could feel like that for couple weeks while it gets in my system. I felt i had no choice but to stop it, has anyone experienced weight gain on this?

I was on 425mg when I was in hospital and I like the pills, I got to 250 in a month, and now I'm on promazine chloride 50mg for 2 years and I don't like them as much.

My mother was on seroquel, she had PTSD. What I noticed was that she would get very dizzy and could not walk after she took it. It was being prescribed for sleep for "off label" usage.

It can have a lot of side efffects: the ones she experienced were weight gain, stiff muscles, diziness and some more. She was prescribed this drug which is for treatment of schizophrenia and bi-polar illness, because the drug was non-addictive and helped her sleep.

I was concerned because of her drinking and age of another side effect, early dementia, as she seemed forgetful and her personality was changing. If it helps you that is great but this was definitely a battle as the prescribing doctor would not take her off of the drug, only reduce the dosage. She could not walk after taking this drug because she was very dizzy...even if it was to relieve herself in the bathroom there was the risk that she would fall.

I have been taking Quetiapine for the past 3 years with brilliant effects and minimal side effects. The most I was on regularly was 50mg at bedime and 25mg in the morning. I was to take an additional dose during the day if required, which I have rarely done.

It helped me from the very first dose - I slept. That was such a relief it was unbelievable. It does take your body a while to adjust, but once you do the 'hangover' effect is less.

I did not gain any weight, but I do have a dry mouth. That is nothing to worry about at all. It certainly enhances the effect of alcohol and you have to be very careful about drinking when on it.

From today I am going down to 12.5mg ( half a tablet) at bedtime for 2 weeks then stopping it. The great thing is, even after I have stopped, I can take it as and when required if I need to. It works so quickly that it can be an emergency remedy.
