Hey Tho,
you should get a dog, they really do help. I saw the boxer Molly on the website and she looks like a sweetheart of a dog and a good listener. Its great that Nichol trusts you with her dog, that is a good sign. I don't trust Mako with just anyone.

someone adopted Molly already... gonna wait till another one calls out my name.. and ya I already got an hour lecture on how to take care of him and have to go over at 6 to go over it again... never mind I have owned dogs my whole life and this is her first lol....

Does anyone have any resorces on getting a service dog? For the moment I'm staying active duty and will more than likely be in NC by the end of the year and my therapist said it might be a good idea.

Hey Doc

I'd say to check out the posts by Tim and Bailey, Bailey's his service dog. He's very involved in service dogs and I think you'll find his post very helpful.

this last week with Harley has convinced me at the least a dog (big one) is what I need.... we've bonded like you don't know... good luck doc! I did a google search for ptsd service dog houston and got 2 places close by that train em... they are prioritized to OIF/OEF vets so Imma just be content in getting a dog..

Tho talk to Tim and Bailey, Tim might be able to find someone close to you.The website is vets4vets.org that will help all veterans no mater when we served. Are you going with a boxer?

Medic5, at this point I'd go with the alien dog from Alien 3 if it would help. If my mom had kept her giant german shepard I would have got her trained, she was great at calming me down and distracting me. But my mom gave her to a friend of hers so no luck there.

Just thought this hit the button:
Dog.webp

medic5 thanks! ya I am going with a boxer... love Harley to death... he is very gentle but protective at the same time. Thanks for the website I will check it out! Even just a dog period is a must I think...

Tho,
In June I'm going to vets4vets training in Kansas City with Tim's group. It will be really great being among vets and their dogs. I must admit I'm a little nervous about taking Mako on the plane. I'm glad you are getting a dog, Mako has saved my bacon on many occassions. She kept me from falling in an irrigation ditch ( filled and flast flowing) when I had whatever it was (flashback, dissocciation). Mako pushed me back from the ditch knocking me down then laid on top of me, Shadow the momma dog stood over me guarding Mako and me. Dogs are great. I'm really happy for you Tho.

Tim trained my service dog honey. She has been amazing, in the last week we have been places I could not have ever imagined going again. As for the breed spicific dogs, I really feel if Honey was a miniture poodle and still helped me, I would walk alongside her just the same. service the dog can provide far outweighs the type of dog. That being seid I prefer large breed dogs. medic5 glad to hear you will be there as well for vets4vets. are you flying out of NY with us?
