Service Dog Alert

I wish. I live in Montana and will be flying from Helena. I'm trying to get another vet from Helena to get his dog trained. It gets lonely out here. When Lynn called to tell me I was going it was the best day I have had in a long time. I'm really excited. I don't know who will be more of a basket case Mako or myself when I arrive in KC. Mako might get PTSD from the flight and not being a German Sheperd:) She is a labrodoodle that looks like a chocolat lab. MY take all dogs are gifts.

MY take all dogs are gifts.

Hey Med5

I couldn't agree with that more. My dogs are terriers, one's 9lbs and the other is about 14lbs. They're big dogs in a little package. Today we had a rabbit in the yard, man they took off after him like a jet plane. Rabbit knows the places in the fence to get out, but only by an inch.

When I'm not feeling myself, they come over and stay with me. They know that I'm not at my best at that moment. I agree with Marc, it doesn't matter the size; that's a personal preference. They just look at me with a look that says,' it's OK, we're here now', they are definetly a gift.

Dogs are amazing how they can sense things, especially anxiety, anger etc. I have a maltese chihuahua cross and a bitza (bitz of everthing), they each have their own personality. Of late I have been a little stressed and anxious with the wedding coming up and they both cling to me. Funny hey, we get stressed, humans back away but the dogs stick close. Mans bet friend (or womans).

First Post so I hope this is to standard. Thanks for this site and the selfless work of the counselors who help with our PTSD.

I saw a couple persons asking about service dog info and Vetdogs.org is a great organization that can get you started with general information and service animal etiquette.

They help vets out through organizations like the Semper Fi Fund and Wounded Warrior Project with trained service dogs at no cost to the veteran. The Vetdogs.org was established by the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind in 2003 to help veterans have easy access to assistance dogs and services.

In the United Kingdom there is also an organization called Hounds for heroes that might be able to help out.

its important to get the word out to other vets about service dogs and the therapeutic effects of lowering your BP, increased mobility, etc.

Seeing a dog's tail wagging is pretty much better than any feeling I can experience.

Thanks Tim and Bailey hope you train plenty more pups.

thedude, I can only gather your a veteran, if so welcome to the forum.

This site was created by a bloke by the name of Anthony from Australia. He also has two other PTSD forums, one for sex abuse and the other as a general PTSD forum. The combat one was formed because we don't play nice with others. That is true, but when it boils down to it, we are different from a standard person with PTSD as we have all that military training and conditioning. Starting to waffle so i will end it here. There are no counsellors on this site at all, we are all veterans striving to help each other out.

As a courtesy, I would appreciate a bit of an intro in the 'introductions' area. That way it will give the rest of us veterans an idea of who you are, and where you are in this tiny planet.

Cheers

Jimmy
