I could not fall asleep again last night and it was too late for me to take my ativan if I wanted to get up. Took me a while to get down I tried at 11 but was up until 1230. Then at 3 and 4am I could not sleep and had to be up at 645am. I am now super tired. Class is almost pointless because I can't focus and am too tired. But t least I got my attendance points. Have 2 hours of class left and idk if I can pull through.

Tips for better sleep and how to stay asleep? And how to be more awake in the mornings. I can't get behind on school this semester. Am on academic probation.

I wish I could help you. My sleep patterns get messed up so I relate to your dilemma. Trying to be a functional human with no sleep just makes it worse.

I've tried to get medical help for this, but I have a jerk for a psychiatrist. He doesn't know shit about chemical brain injuries. Ten minute appointment twice a year. I'd like to have a sleep test done.

I practice 'good sleep hygiene', I've always refused drugs for my insomnia. It takes a lot if perseverance but if you stick with it it really can make a difference.

It's all about trainng your body to recognise when it's time to sleep. Some of the things I do:

I go to bed and get out of bed the same time every day.
I don't eat carbohydrate rich foods or sugary foods after 7pm, nor drink caffeine.
I don't use the computer in the hour before bed time.
I never read in bed (I was really bad with that).
I never listen to music in bed.
I never go to bed during the day, unless I feel really ill.
I never even lie down during the day. This way my body equates lying down with sleeping.
It's also important to make sure you are comfortable in bed, that your room is set to the way you like to sleep- too light/too dark- change it.

If you're not used to it, it sounds horrible, but after years of practising it's second nature to me. I don't even think about the things I do/don't do. And I've gone from an average of 2 hours a night as a teenager to a regular 8 hours now.

The good sleep hygiene practices @jaccat listed are all helpful if you can do them. I've also found doing something physical helps me. If my body is tired, it's a lot easier for me to sleep. Also, a hot bath a few hours before bed so I'm nice and relaxed really helps.

I haven't truly slept in days now, so I can totally empathize. I feel lucky if I get two hours. Until this migraine breaks, it's going to be like this apparently.

Hopefully some of these suggestions help you and you can get a full nights rest tonight.

My sleep hygiene is usually pretty good and my melatonin supplement were working but now I can't stop the constant and random thoughts. It takes me forever to fall asleep I think about my trauma, work, the wife, the kids, church, or other life stuff it's like when I try to go to sleep my brain doesn't want me to, abd I rarely remember my dreams but I tend to wake up in the middle of the night or in the morning a bit anxious
