Social Sharing Changes

A recent help desk discussion asked whether social icons shared information back to the social network, as they had read on the web. My answer was yes, as they're setup to do that. As those buttons were controlled by those social networks, your browsing here could be recorded by them by any page those buttons were listed.

Enter changes.

What I've done, which has a two fold effect of giving users more privacy whilst allowing site pages to load faster, is I've placed in a drastically different system that allows further sharing scope, along with sharing by email, of threads only.

This new system is completely internal, which means your browsing this site is not tracked as the un-hosted version of sharing buttons is disabled, and we now use a fully internal system which is completely responsive and will change based on screen size.

You can share a thread via these buttons without being tracked at every turn, as the hosting of these buttons is completely internal with MyPTSD.

Obviously when you share a URL via one of those social networks they're going to track you shared it, but beyond that page, everything is then internal here.

Faster loading, increased privacy, greater sharing of content with ease, is the end result.

I am very grateful for this forum, and it's professionalism as to how it is set up and everything. Once I am employed again, I will be sure to make a donation. That is why I feel hesitant to give feedback on this coloured social media bar. Last week it was suddenly at the top of the page and I found it very disturbing, but made myself get used to it. The second bar was at the total bottom of the page, fine. Now I see it above the reply to post box and this is just too much disturbing stuff on one page imho. Is it really necessary for the bottom bar to be in its current new position? Scrolling up during the process of replying constantly forces these coloured blocks to be moved in and out of sight :wacky: Before it was just a quiet white page in its totality, but now all these squared boxes are a mental overload to me. As this forum does not represent the most social group of people in any case, why are these social media options so featured? Thank you.

Social media and being social, are two different things. These buttons remove a previous privacy issue that is default with FB, Twitter and Google+, whilst expanding sharing. These are sharing buttons... allowing people to quickly, in essence, bookmark / share a URL with others or in their accounts, such as Pocket, which is private and only stores favourite URL's for a person, and doesn't share them anywhere.
why are these social media options so featured?
These buttons promote the community, and that is something of an ongoing effort to remain current and ensure listing in Google nowadays, as Google give a lot of attention to social media referrals. Basically, the more people talk about a site via social media sharing URL's, the more Google accept the site as being current, viable to searchers and thus list it higher for terms based on user importance for its subject.

If you don't put things in front of people, they don't see them or use them.

If you setup a twitter account that isn't in your real name, then yes, yes you could do just that.

For example, I have lots of twitter accounts... so I could do just that.

Yes of course, I had never thought of Pocket and using the buttons for yourself. Probably my general dislike of social media that blinded me. Your new thread on site restructuring reminded me of this thread, sorry for the late reply.
