"Can't Stop The World" by Gavin Rossdale

How far will you go?
How deep is your love?
Your body’s bruised and on fire
Can’t stop the world
Can’t stop desire
And I can’t turn around
And I can’t turn around

Somedays I can see the future
Somedays you seem so far
I don’t know what I was thinking
I’ve been gone too long
I’ve been gone too long

Don’t fall to pieces
Don’t give up or get down
Keep your eyes on the road
Can’t stop the world
Can’t stop the phones
And I can’t turn around
But I can’t turn around

Somedays I can see the future
Somedays you seem so far
I don’t know what I was thinking
I’ve been gone too long

The strange life
So random yeah
It’s only you
I understand
What can I do to get to you?
Ohhh
What can I do to get to you?

How far will you go?
How deep is your love?
Your body’s bruised and on fire
Can’t stop the world
Can’t stop desire

I have an auditory processing issue so when I listen to music with words I don't usually hear the lyrics well enough to really get them. Only music that's really clear and without a lot of background music.

I appreciate this thread. I like dark and sad music too. It's like it clarifies what I'm feeling in a way that I often can't do for myself.

"Cry Little Sister"
Aiden

At last fire will rise behind those eyes
Black house will rock, blind boys don't lie
Immortal fear, that voice so clear
Through broken walls, that scream I hear

Cry, little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come to your brother - Thou shall not die
Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

Blue masquerade, strangers look on
When will they learn this loneliness?
Temptation heat beats like a drum
Deep in your eyes, I will not lie

Little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come to your brother - Thou shall not die
Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

My Shangri-La
I can't forget
Why you were mine
I need you now

Cry, little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come to your brother - Thou shall not die
Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

An oldie but a goodie...

Blind Faith
Can't Find My Way Home

Come down off your throne and leave your body alone
Somebody must change
You are the reason I've been waiting so long
Somebody holds the key
Well, I'm near the end and I just ain't got the time
And I'm wasted and I can't find my way home
...

"Hopeless" by Breaking Benjamin

Here I lie forever
Sorrow still remains
Will the water pull me down
And wash it all away
Come and take me over
Welcome to the game
Will the current drag me down
And carry me away
Suddenly the light begins to fade

HOPELESS
I'm falling down
FILTHY
I can't wake up
I cannot hold on
I will not let go
WORTHLESS
It's over now
GUILTY
There's no way out
I cannot hold on
I will not let go

Silent I go under
I am not afraid
I can see the daylight shine
And slowly drift away
Safe to say it's over
Sink into the grave
There is nothing left inside
But I am wide awake
I can hear the devil call my name

HOPELESS
I'm falling down
FILTHY
I can't wake up
I cannot hold on
I will not let go
WORTHLESS
It's over now
GUILTY
There's no way out
I cannot hold on
I will not let go

I saw, under "Similar Threads", that there's one called "Any Positive Songs You Wish to Share?". And it made me think a bit. Maybe I'm lost, but the whole "positive thinking" thing just doesn't do a damn thing for me. ;) It's not that I like to dwell on misery or negativity -- not at all. But I don't like to ignore it, either. Hell, I did that for decades, and I'm now able to look at both good and bad objectively and honestly.

I know it does work for many people, and I would say that they are luckier than me, perhaps. I just wish that there was more recognition, especially by therapists, that this approach doesn't work for everyone. OK, done with my soapbox. :D

I don't often come to chit-chat, but this song has got to me, as a little soppy song of hope. It's better listened to :)

The Great Escape, by Pink

I can understand how when the edges are rough
And they cut you like the tiniest slithers of glass
And you feel too much
And you don't know how long you're gonna last,

But everyone you know, is tryin' smooth it over,
Find a way to make the hurt go away,
But everyone you know, is tryin' smooth it over,
Like you're trying to scream underwater,
But, I won't let you make the great escape,
I'm never gonna watch you checkin out of this place
I'm not gonna lose you
Cause the passion and the pain
Are gonna keep you alive someday
Gonna keep you alive someday

I feel like I could wave my fist in front of your face
And you wouldn't flinch or even feel a thing
And you've retreated to your silent corner
Like you decided the fight was over for ya,

Everyone you know, is tryin' smooth it over,
Find a way to make the hurt go away,
Everyone you know, is tryin' smooth it over,
Everyone needs a floor they can fall through
I won't let you make the great escape,
I'm never gonna watch you checkin outta this place
I'm not gonna lose you
Cause the passion and pain
Are gonna keep you alive someday
They're gonna keep you alive someday

I'm terrified of the dark, but not if you go with me
And I don't need a pill to make me numb
And I wrote the book on runnin',
But that chapter of my life will soon be done

I'm the king of the great escape
You're not gonna watch me checkin outta this place
You're not gonna lose me
Cause the passion and pain
Are gonna keep us alive, someday
Yeah the passion and the pain
Are gonna keep us alive someday, someday

Genius Next Door
by Regina Spektor

Some said the local lake had been enchanted
Others said it must have been the weather
The neighbors were trying to keep it quiet
But I swear that I could hear the laughter
So they jokingly nicknamed it the porridge
Cause overnight that lake had turned as thick as butter
But the local kids would still go swimming, drinking
Saying that to them it doesn't matter

If you just hold in your breath til you come back up in full
Hold in your breath til you thought it through, you fool

The genius next door was busing tables
Wiping clean the ketchup bottle labels
Getting high and mumbling German fables
Didn't care as long as he was able
To strip his clothes off by the dumpsters
At night while everyone was sleeping
And to wade midway into that porridge
Just him and the secret he was keeping

If you just hold in your breath til you come back up in full
Hold in your breath til you thought it through, you foolish child

In the morning the film crews start arriving
With donuts, coffee and reporters
The kids were waking up hungover
The neighbors were starting up their cars
The garbageman were emptying the dumpsters
Atheists were praying full of sarcasm
And the genius next door was sleeping
Dreaming that the antidote is orgasm

If you just hold in your breath til you come back up in full
Hold in your breath til you thought it through, you foolish child

The Great Escape
It's very moving. I think it's a violin being played at some parts, and it sounds so sad with the guitar. I love it Meadowsweet, thanks for sharing because it was a Pink song I hadn't heard before (lost track of her albums a while ago). I love that line "I don't need a pill to make me numb", because it reminds me of her song Just Like A Pill ("You're just like a pill, instead of making me better, you keep making me ill").

Breaking Benjamin
These guys are one of my "go to" bands. I find their albums really easy to listen to. Home is still my favourite song of theirs, I posted the lyrics in this thread somewhere.

Genius Next Door
I love these lyrics. I'm away to listen to it now before dinner.

Ladder 49
Looks like an interesting film. I find I'm a bit lost without lyrics though so I didn't listen to the whole thing. There seemed to be different tones in the theme tune though, I could hear some peril and later on a bit of hope. I like some classical music, but I'm always so caught up in lyrics, that a song without words just isn't the same for me. I know some people prefer tunes, I just find it harder to relate to music than lyrics.

@Pietro --I actually saw that thread and was wondering if it was a counter thread to this one, as I'm pretty sure in my introduction to this thread I was all BRING ON THE SAD ANGRY SHIT.

Here's a bit of humor of the dark flavor.

Voltaire
God Thinks

God thinks
That all blacks are obsolete farm equipment
And God thinks
The Jews killed His son
And must be punished
God thinks
The white man is Satan

God, they know what God thinks

God thinks
We should all convert to Judaism
God thinks
We must all be Christians and
God thinks
We should all embrace Islam
God thinks the only true religion
Is Hinduism

And I
I know what God thinks
God thinks you're a waste of flesh!
Ho-oh
God prefers an aethiest
Oh, oh, God
God

God thinks all people like you are hateful
God thinks people like you are an embarrassment to creation
Self righteous
Judgmental
First to throw the stone
And you're using His name
For your own protection

God thinks
The Sun revolves around the Earth?
God thinks
There was something very wrong with Copernicus
God thinks
Abortion is murder and
God thinks everything that science gave is is wrong!
God thinks
Women deserve it
God thinks
AIDS is a form of punishment
I hate people who blame the devil
For their own shortcomings and
I hate people who thank God
When things go right and I
I know what God thinks

God thinks you're an idiot
Ho-oh
God prefers a heretic
Oh, oh God
God

God thinks all people like you are hateful
God thinks people like you are an embarrassment to creation
Self righteous
Judgmental
First to throw the stone
And you're using His name
For your own agenda

God is a liberal
God is a democrat
God wants you to vote Republican
Never trust a man who puts his words
In the mouth of God and says it's absolute
Truth--it's lies
And it smells like death
It's all in a day's work taking
Money from the poor
Why do you think that God
Would need your dirty money
If He wants to start a holy war?

Self-righteous
Judgmental
First to throw the stone
And you're using His name
For your own protection

God thinks
Puppies need to die and
God thinks babies need to drown 'cause
God is
Neither good nor bad
God is you and me
God is everything

This brought to you by a man whose father was a rabbi and whose son, when Easter was explained to him, gasped and said, "Jesus was a zombie?!"
