Before I start therapy I have to complete a course on PTSD to help me understand what I am going through. I started it yesterday, most people do it as a group but it was felt I was better off one on one. The first appointment we covered symptoms and discussed which ones I can relate to. I also received a booklet on PTSD that we will work through over the next four sessions. Next week is the fight or flight response.

I managed to stay present throughout and used my grounding techniques to keep myself there. The therapist noticed and commented that I was much more present than I had been when he last saw me. I am glad he could see a difference because I have been working so hard.

I am actually looking forward to next week and starting to get a better idea of what is going on.

Hmmmm. This sounds interesting. A course on PTSD given to people before they start therapy? I'd have been sooo triggered, I probably would've stopped. I'm glad to hear you are staying grounded and present. Is this at a counseling clinic or a University or where?

I think this is fantastic. I wish to god that someone would have explained the physiology of ptsd. It would have saved me so much mental energy and distress.

Where are you getting this? Is it free?

@Wyakin . I have just finisheb my three day residential Warrior Course. I wish you all the best on the course and for the future.

@KwanYingirl It is triggering but as it is delivered by a trauma therapist he recognises when I am struggling and helps me to calm down before continuing. It isn't as triggering as I expected it to be though because we don't talk in anyway about what happened just about what PTSD is and how it relates to me.

@Springer80 It is free on the NHS. I am very lucky to live in an area that has a specialised trauma clinic helping local veterans as well as other sufferers of PTSD. I have been assessed, diagnosed and started to get help within 2 months of my diagnosis which is virtually unheard of here. It is helping me to realise am normal within the realms of PTSD and why my brain is the way it is. It is very useful because it is information I have struggled to research myself due to getting triggered. Now though I am learning in a safe place with a professional who can ensure I am ok while we discuss it.

@Santa_Laurie Thank you :) Glad to see you back. I hope your course went well? Here's to a new start hey :)
