Just wanted to share my excitement! Today I have decided to start a series of videos sharing my experience with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I'm creating the videos for people who are going through it, for teachers who might want to learn about the disorder from someone experiencing it, and for the significant others of people who have the disorder.

My goal is to share my story, and how it feels to have Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. That way I hope that significant others can better understand what we go through, and so that teachers can better educate students. Maybe a few counselors will even watch it, maybe it could help them help their patients. We'll see how it goes. But it gives me more determination to keep fighting this to know I might be helping others.:)

Wow. I had never heard of that before but a quick search showed me a lot. This is exactly my situation and my doctor has never got it, my therapist does but has never used that term. It is so damn hard to explain to someone years of abuse rather than an isolated incident. You can't point to something and say see that that is what damaged me. It took many years for this to happen to me. I really look forward to learning more when you post your story.

@twofeathers I definitely know your frustrations! I was just recently diagnosed with C-PTSD. I thought I only had normal PTSD but explaining it to my therapist he said, "Do you know you have more than just PTSD?" It really does help me explain it a lot better. My therapist explained that C-PTSD can be more treatment resistant, and that it stems from prolonged abuse rather than one event. I hope that you can research more about it and talk to your therapist about perhaps a new approach.

My therapist is having me try Dialectical Behavior Therapy, since I have many of the symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder. BPD and C-PTSD are very closely related and they say that 75% of patients in a study who had been diagnosed with C-PTSD also had BPD. Although I have not received an official diagnosis of BPD, we are trying this therapy which has been known to show success for patients with C-PTSD. You should definitely talk to your therapist about it. Good luck to you! Feel free to message me too if you have any questions or just want to talk.

DBT is already a well known CBT treatment method. It is the best for complex trauma. It takes a longer period of time to perform and for results, but the results are often better for those with heavy dissociation and such complex personality traits that affect them negatively.

I would just warn you about self-promotion, and that whilst you have not broken forum rules at this time, please don't do so via PC or such thinking you're off the forum, as that will be self-promotion.

I'm not self promoting as I'm not intending to share the link with anyone just sharing my excitement for the idea. I told twofeathers she could feel free to message me if she had any questions about living with C-PTSD. I'm not trying to promote myself as I do not care who does or who doesn't see it. I just want to help others and I am sharing my excitement about starting a blog that will help me in recovery as well as others hopefully.

I started a video vlog as well not too long ago. I am finding it extremely helpful with me finding a voice. Although be-careful with over-sharing at first. I went a little too fast and had urges to isolate or self-harm. Those have since gotten better, just be aware your exposing yourself and it could make you feel unsafe for a little bit.

Good luck and you're brave for sharing on that type of platform.

@VDWngr1355 Thank you! I am a little nervous about sharing my story but it makes me feel better to know that I might help other people in understanding the disorder. I'm going to try to keep the videos to a reasonable length and not go into too much detail, but still share my story. I wrote down a list of things I want to talk about and I'm breaking it up so that I don't go too fast or too far. Personally, I'd rather have people know the truth than not know, or know a lie. It helps me feel better when I find people I can relate with so I'm hoping others can relate to my videos and find some peace of mind.

Nice! I would definitely be interested to watch if the vlogs were on YouTube, though I understand you are not self-promoting. But either way it is an awesome idea to help yourself and others. You are so courageous! I've thought about doing something similar myself, but I hate myself on camera so much that at this point anyways, it wouldn't work for me. In any event, good luck!
