Stem Cell Transplant ( Sct )

I am finding myself doing a little better each day. I did have a development yesterday that had the oncologist and the transplant coordinator a little stumped. But since they had never seen it be a side effect, it was determined to possibly be a result of a very low platelet count and some bruising coming to the surface and not anything life threatening or requiring immediate medical attention. But tomorrow morning is my first follow up appointment so they can look at it then. Will be interesting to see what my counts are and the first official measurement of progress post transplant.

The blood pressure issue is a whole lot better. Funny thing is the two drugs that I had been prescribed to help with sleep at the hospital and to deal with the anxiety caused by the steroids will both lower blood pressure. I am off of those and just on the anti-viral, anti-fungal and the "can't remember the name" to help my GI tract heal. Not a bad number of meds. Next will be the decision as to whether or not to put me on a long term antibiotic. There are pros and cons to that and it will be a topic of discussion tomorrow.

Just taking it day by day and focusing on eating, increasing my activity slowly, and getting plenty of rest. There is no pain any more, except when I eat something that doesn't agree with the healing GI system. The best part is I know the worst of this procedure is behind me and each day is just about getting better.

I know the extreme weakness and fatigue will pass in time. Just have to learn to be patient. Not my strongest skill set so something I have to develop, and not a bad skill to work on. Seems like this past year has caused me to make a lot of changes. Mostly for the good, but not the best circumstances. But I am really learning to make the best out of just about any circumstance.

Thank you Deb for saying you are learning to make the best out of just about any circumstance. It is so true that we need to do that in life to make it better for ourselves. You teach me so much. Thank you for being you and sharing what you are learning and feeling and thinking. You are a gift.

Yes, she is.

Went for my first follow up appointment this morning. Let's just say the transplant team was nothing sort of shocked by my blood work. In every category, I was within normal range except 2. But those two, were just a few points shy of the low end of normal. They do not want to see me back for a month, and normally a transplant patient goes every week for the first month. But they are amazed by how fast my stems cells have grafted and are recreating my own marrow and immune system.

Rocking the transplant!!!
