Stuffed ears & anxiety anyone?

Whenever any of my senses get blunted my anxiety skyrockets.

Makes sense, hypervig aside, if I’m actually pushing harder to see, hear, etc. that ups things a level; then add in a healthy dose of fear that something is wrong with my sight, hearing, etc.; then let’s go ahead and add back in the hypervig because I’ve got some core beliefs about how dangerous obliviousness is. Yep. Anxiety is going to be somewhere between running hot & flat out panic.

Conversely?

There’s the disassociation that often comes part and parcel with a spike in adrenaline. The roaring whoomph whoomph whoomph (hello heartbeat  ) as my hearing constricts; the tunnel vision and blurring out of the rest of the world; pain vanishes; etc. Argh. Useful series of events in motion (read during an emergency) not useful for everyday life.

Sorry, I only read a few replies but wanted to advise that I go through this as well when disocciating. I disocciate very deeply. When disocciating deeply, It feels like I am floating out of my body. My senses go along with it. Like they start to lessen more and more until they are gone. So my sense of touch is lessened until I cant feel anymore. My sense of hearing is lessened until I cant hear anymore and so on. And when its lessened, it sounds like I am under water. Its a good way to explain that.

Find something that grounds you to the present. That is different for everyone. Something that grounds me may not ground you. But, if you search on here for grounding techniques, a bazillon of them pop up. Try one at a time until you find something that really works for you (and it can be multiple things). Then when you start to loose your hearing or any other sense for that matter, use your grounding technique(s) and it should pull you back to present day and your hearing should return. If its disocciation and not a medical condition that is. I probably should of said to ensure rule out any medical conditions first.

Hope this helps!

Sometimes my ears feel like they’re clogged/stuffed... the feeling you get sometimes when you come out of the pool. And it happens to coincide with times when I’m anxious.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Or perhaps I just have a cold ???‍♀️??‍♀️.

Thanks & hope your all doing well ??

do you mean that your ears literally feel heavy like theres water in them? or do you mean that its harder to hear everything around you? sometimes when i dissociate i noticed that i cannot hear well at all, i have to keep asking people to repeat themselves. everything sounds far away and muffled. its also alot harder to see, and my sense of touch is weakened also, i drop things without even realizing it sometimes, and my memory is almost non existent. when i stand up my legs feel like jello and i feel like im going to pass out from lightheadedness. all of this is temporary because of a temporary dissociative episode , dont get scared thinking its permanent ...because its not permanent. its just your subconcious trying to protect yourself and help you out.

I couldn't have describe the dissociative experience better! I'm significantly hearing impaired....I hear nothing when dissociated. OMG-it is such a stressless place......hearing no criticism, no issues, no conflict.....it certainly created havoc with time and memory.
