Suggestion For Aiding Recovery---quit All Caffeine

Congrats to everyone who is able to stop. Godspeed to all of you. I started drinking coffee at 14, and although I have quit for a couple weeks here and there, this is the longest stretch ever. Anxiety is hugely reduced, but I have and overwhelming sense of sadness just sitting there in the post caffeine void.

I started drinking coffee so young because I was so sad as a kid, and it elevated my mood. It is quite remarkable how the emotion behind the original reason for taking up the addiction blasts forward with fury when you stop the addiction. I will start another thread on this.

@FridayJones (I was wondering if you would appear on the thread...lol)

What Friday said is my life too. I would just have to switch to pharmaceuticals in order to be able to sleep, relax or calm down the racing thoughts.

When I come home from work, I drink a french press of coffee in order to sleep, seriously. I am made different with abundance of high test energy being ADHD.

I visited my son & DIL and was surrounded by delightful naturalist as well as healthy individuals who tried to pry my steaming mug of java out of my cupped hands during the campfire lite evening. My son, gently touched their shoulder and said,"Trust me...she calms down with coffee and will be up all night otherwise.";)

Friday and Recovery4, I would like to share something with ya'll. I am a cured Bipolar person. I am CURED from the severe racing thoughts and the horrific insomnia that plagued me since I was 11. I was put on disability for severe, intractable medication resistant Bipolar I with psychotic features. I am a scientist. I say this because I cured myself of these horrible symptoms through analysis and eliminations...and with a few additions, like you would with an experiment.

Between severe food allergies, toxic Bag of Dicks (BoDs) people and family, pushing myself too hard because of low self worth, Intense movies and TV, and various drugs (prescription, legal, and illicit), as well as low level autism, I was bat shit nuts. Epic bat shit nuts. One by one, along with basic meditation practice, I let them all go. Gluten was the pivotal one where life just changed instantly. When I let it go, so did all of the horrid bipolar symptoms. All of them.

Just sayin'. I would beg god to die because these symptoms were so intolerable. And they are gone. Just sayin'.

@maryiscontrary :hug:

 I am always impressed with your takes mary, always. I have learned quite a bit from you.
As well, your last extra special share post will offer many food for thought. You are so awesome!

I honestly was just playing w/FridayJ as our bodies are wired different. Trust me, I wish it wasn't so.
(Just in case I hurt your feelings...which I did not mean to do-so sorry). I am damaging parts of my body with the caffeine uptake, but the pharmaceuticals nearly cost me my mind. So anyone, who can regulate by changing their diet is a hero to me, you know? You are my heroine!

So...keep posting and helping others with your good news.:D  Say it loud and proud.

Energy drink makers targeting children?
The Food and Drug Administration does not set a standard for what is considered a safe amount of caffeine for children. The American Academy of Pediatrics prefers children consume no caffeine, although about 73% of children do every day, according to their research. Children and adolescents are the fastest growing population of caffeine users, studies show.

Can you OD on caffeine?

For healthy adults, the FDA suggests moderate amounts of caffeine are not harmful. The agency considers a "moderate amount" between 100 to 200 mg (one to two 5-ounce cups of coffee). Other FDA guidance has cited 400 mg a day, or about four or five cups of coffee, "as an amount not generally associated with dangerous, negative effects."

I gave up tea and coffee for a month when I came out of hospital this spring, because I read in a medicines information leaflet

"Caffeine is a stimulant and can cancel out the calming effects of benzodiazepines. This can happen at fairly low doses e.g. 250mg of caffeine a day (which is about 2-3 mugs of tea or coffee, either instant or "real"). " - quoted from [DLMURL]http://www.choiceandmedication.org/nsft/medications/31/[/DLMURL]

I desperately wanted avoid taking any meds, and reckoned that removing the effects of my 6 pints of tea a day habit might help.

I'm now drinking tea and the occasional coffee, but I'm starting from a more stable base than I had then.

Wow what a great discussion. I sincerely hopes it helps a few of you out there. I just wanted to share my experience, and what I am having to do to have a life worth living. It wasn't just foods, I had to eliminate my FOO, an abusive and dangerous husband, exposure to extraneous, uneeded, wasteful stress of all types.

The key is this. In order to begin recovery, you have to eliminate as much stress on your mind and body as you can. For some people, it can be giving up foods, drugs, or a plethora of toxic situations and relationships.

The key is to keep adrenalin and cortisol, and the neural part of flight fight activation as low as possible so that gene expression in all of your tissues can reset. It is a hard reboot.
