Tattoos Anyone?

I am getting my first tattoo in 2 weeks..EEK! Super nervous but excited! It's on my foot and will say "love knows no boundaries"with a few small birds around it. This tattoo has so much meaning to me surrounding my relationship with my sufferer. The ptsd, the long distance, me having kids that have to have visitation with their father in this state... It's quite a few things but more so a reminder that where there is a will there is a way!

I am unspeakably pissed off right now. Of all the f*cking symbols for some faith-based mental health movement to choose... why do you have to f*ck with my semicolon? I swear to god if I see someone with a semicolon tattoo and they can't even tell me its function I will completely lose my shit. I mean. Why. Really? Ohhhh...

I have 2 tattoos. One of them is a blackbird with a very special meaning. And the other is a lighthearted tattoo inspired by a nickname my best friend has for me. The timing of that tattoo is significant too.

I want a few more too. One of them is a quote of the artist Matisse and I want it in French. I'm a Francophile. Which means I love almost everything French. I also want a quote from Maya Angelou that she wrote in my book when she signed it for me. And I think I want one more after that. Although considering my kids are artistically talented it would be amazingly cool to have a drawing from each of them tattooed on me somewhere.

I have three. On one arm I have a bouquet of roses and calla lillies. Below that I have a black tarantula. On the other arm I have a dead tree with a single little red bird in the branches.

My next tattoo will be a phoenix.

I was thinking of getting a tattoo to represent that I am a trauma survivor but I don't know what that would be or where I would put it on my body. I don't think I would want it where it could be seen by just anyone, but then again why not? any thoughts?

@Lionheart777 That's what the phoenix tattoo means for me. That I can not only survive but that I can take the fire I've walked through and still thrive.

The dead tree with the bird shows me that even in my most desolate place where I feel dead inside there is still beauty and life to be had. My artists did this one with beautifully dark twists in the trunk and branches. It was also drawn free hand on my body and so moves with me and all my little marks without covering any of them up.

My advice would be to take your time and think of something that symbolizes a major aspect of your personality. For me that was that I find beauty in the dark things and triumph or continual renewal. While you are not your trauma it is a part of you, but it can still be what adds to what makes you an amazing person.

I like showing off my tattoos but not everyone does. I suggest you upper back or chest if you'd mostly like to keep covered. That way you can always wear a t-shirt. If there are occasions you'd like to show off but you need to keep covered for work the upper arm is a great spot.

Lastly I'll suggest to find an artists whose overall style you like and has a personality you enjoy. The first because you are looking to do something very personal, it's more than a pretty picture on your body. A pretty pic in a style that doesn't fit your personality is going to be a disappointment. The second is because you could potentially be spending a long time with this person. If you do decide to go for it they can quite addicting so an artist you are comfortable is the best.

Good luck

I have a four leafed clover on my left foot... a little good luck charm for my wrong foot. ;)

Ha! Cute. First time Tater started talkin about the left-footers I had to hit up the search page...yet again. LOL I've definitely expanded my trivia knowledge since meeting him.

I like foot tattoos. I've planned on utilizing that space for a while, but haven't gotten around to it yet. One day...

I'm wondering if I'm getting ink on one brand. Still haven't decided if I'm just changing interpretation of it, putting ink on it, putting ink over it, or what. But I'm glad it's aesthetic worry at this point, & contemplation, not a 'worry'.

I just got two new tattoos today.

I got a semicolon behind my right ear. It's supposed to represent depression and suicide prevention.

And then I got something really very personal. I am really into the American Civil war and I finally got that Civil War related tattoo. I'm hoping it's the first of many Civil War related tattoos. It's a tattoo on my ancestors corp badge ( a blue crescent moon) and the name of the regiment they were apart of. I had it put right on my chest, near the right collar bone.
