My T came along to see me last night armed with a leaflet. He has just undertaken intensive training here in Scotland by Lisa Schwarz ( of the US) in this new therapy. It is based on Brainspotting.

Has anybody heard of this or got any experience of it? It sounds fascinating and I am intrigued. However T has no plan to use this therapy with me as he says we should stick with the EMDR that I am familiar with, and works well for me.

That´s a little strange ... first he teases you with the leaflet and then he doesn´t want to do it ... ?
As to new therapies, I guess they spring up like mushrooms and with every new one the hope that we might get healed in the next three sessions and the nightmare finally be over ... studies have suggested however that it is mainly the contact in relationship that heals and not the actual method ... just my two pence worth ...

I don't think he was 'teasing' me at all. He knows I have an interest in all things therapy so he provided me with the information. He has talked to me a lot about Brainspotting in the past, but we have never done it as I started therapy before he had done the training. He has modified EMDR for me as I dissociated so much in the beginning and now we have an effective and familiar way of doing it. I don't think he wanted me to be a 'guinea pig' fo a new method.

I do agree that the relationship or atunement with the therapist is very important, but I don't think it is everything. I need to 'process' the memories and simply talking about them does not do that. EMDR has definitely made a difference.

Bit I am digressing. I am still curious if anyone has tried CRM - as this is an international forum and it was 'invented' in the US I thought others might be familiar with it. Of course the people who have tried it might be so 'well' now that they have no need to join a forum...

I think it's possible that people may have tried elements of it. I googled it after I read your first post and it was hard to understand what it was, but what it said about the somatic awareness element sounded like Focussing to me. Also what was said about the grid reminded me of what my craniosacral therapist talked about as the original matrix. It's possible that some of us have put together some of the separate elements ourselves.

But like I said, it was hard to understand what it was so I'm not sure.

I'm a bit puzzled as to why you don't try Brainspotting with your therapist. You seem very drawn to it, and that may be telling you something. Would there be any harm in trying it?

It is not me that is against trying it. My T is reluctant to introduce something new. The next EMDR session is going to be 'heavy' and he has me practicing/preparing some extra calming/grounding measures at the moment as we both know that it will be difficult for me. We have a tried and tested EMDR protocol for us, so he doesn't want to rock the boat.

I know this is not coming to you in a timely manner but I just saw the thread. I have tried CRM with Lisa Schwarz directly and I can tell you it is an extremely effective for all forms of trauma. Lisa is formerly a Brainspotting trainer as well as someone who was initially trained in EMDR. She created CRM as a means to build a variety of techniques into one full model and it works amazingly well. I'd recommend contacting her if you have questions.
