The Dukan Diet

Like I say - it needs a change in mind set. Do you have the Hairy Bikers on TV in Australia? They're doing a series in the UK at the moment called the Hairy Dieters and that really seemed to engage Husband - probably because there's a big hairy Geordie bloke that eats pies and lots of gravy... They analysed what they were eating during the day and it was circa 3,500 calories each and their bodies were 45% fat  That did hit home with Husband!

I only started dieting last year after I put on a stone or so after I developed an odd food allergy - it means eating things at odd times of the day and has really put my body out of synch.

I'm finding looking at calories quite addictive! I think a British fried breakfast was about 1,200 calories - which is all I should eat in one day!

Perhaps it's a British thing... perhaps we're just all really unhealthy...!!!!! *ducks for cover*

Its interesting, in that Asian culture has been one of the healthiest in the world, though in recent years more asians are eating rubbish food, their diets changing, and thus putting on weight.

Reminds me of the WALL-E movie, where they all went out to space and progressively got fatter until they couldn't walk and used hover boards to get around.

It's the Chinese restaurants in the UK that make me laugh - thick gloopy sauces, deep fried starters etc etc and people wonder how they eat that food and stay so thin. What we don't consider is that the food they serve is their celebratory food eaten only so often and we cram it down with gusto every weekend and wonder why we pile on the pounds! Chinese / Asian foods are generally steamed aren't they? Lots of fresh veg too.

I love Italian food - lots of salads, olive oils, bread... and pasta - ahhh pasta :inlove:

For the record I am willing to try anything if it is dipped in batter (preferably a beer batter) and deep fried.

Google "miracle brownies" they are made with flax meal. They are yummy if you are looking for sweets/chocolate.

Protein diets are the only kind that reliably work. And my grandma was right. Carbs make you fat. :bawling::inpain:

Yep, protein diet this is, and its working. Anyone who takes this on, you really need to be committed IMHO as you will feel sick, you will be looking for snacks... so you need to prepare recipes and trialling things with the allowed ingredients prior to starting the diet, so you can make them and snack away all day if you want, as long as its something you like.

It is really stage one and two that are tough, being to get to your desired weight. If you have to lose 20, 30, 40 plus kg's, shit... you would be feeling pretty ill at times IMHO, though this would do it without a doubt. Stage 3 allows a takeaway type meal per week, which breaks things up... noodles or such, still healthy, though a little naughty, yet totally yummy. It also gets you off this 30 / 70 split days, so you have one or two protein days a week only, then more salad and veg days. If you can't do a lot with salads, veg and meats, then you lack the ability to search Google IMHO for creative recipes.

Tacos is the first thing that comes to my mind... except without the tortilla, and instead wrap them in a lettuce leaf directly and fill it with yummy salads and minced beef / chicken covered in raw mexican spices. You could even put it all together and then toast it a little for extra measure. YUM!

I have to do more experimenting with my chocolate chip oatbran cookies today... as they are an awesome snack, 100% healthy and near zero calories and fat... I just need to get the mix right. The last batch were to moist and chewy... they needed to be drier at the mix so the bran crisped a little and gave it that soft / crunchy texture a good biscuit should have. Have to work on that today.

Recipe please.

Taubes (and the Dr.'s Eades) says that so long as you keep net carbs under 20g a day you will drop weight fairly quickly. (Your body kicks into ketogenic metabolism) and you can keep losing weight, once your body gets used to burning primarily fat and protein, and maintain a healthy weight with 100g of net carbs a day. This seems to be the consensus of the low-carb people generally. It will also improve your lipid profile and various and sundry other standard health indicators.

For the record - bacon fat makes EVERYTHING taste better.
