The Dukan Diet

Thank you Nicolette. Yes, I don't see a salt restriction either. Just checking out the diet. Many things I won't eat, but nothing I would worry about wanting to eat separate from the diet. Though, there are some veggies I would miss. My ideal weight is a little more then I had thought for myself, but a weight I think I could maintain easily. So far, I read a good portion of the site and I am now reading various blogs and forums about the diet to see what others think and say.

How long have you been on this?

Just checking out the diet.
Britt,

Just my opinion here but I don't believe diets such as this one (or any diets for that matter) are suitable for someone with an eating disorder. Especially when someone has multiple illnesses. I hope you don't mind me saying that. It depends how unwell you still are.

I will never go on a diet again even though I am almost entirely recovered. And I will also never eat in a way that cuts out or restricts a food group. Because of the small risk that it could trigger the eating disorder.

It's mainly been Anthony on the diet with me going along with most evening meals for convenience as according to the charts I was at my ideal weight.

Anthony started in August and is now in stage 3 (consolidation I think?) where he has only one protein day a week and has to control his weight for a certain amount of time based on weight he has lost.

I hope you don't mind me saying that

No, I do not mind it at all. I think I would be surprised if you didn't at all. Probably disappointed if I didn't hear from you on this topic.

That is one of my concerns that I have in the back of my mind as I am looking through the various information I am finding. One thing about any diet that I have any issues with if is they are making me eat more then I normally do. I know this is the eating disorder issue. I am still thinking of calling my doctor to find out about the nutritionist and whether she handles patients with eating disorders.

I think if I can just lose weight on this diet I can keep it off. It's just getting it down from where I'm at. I also know I really need to watch what I'm doing because of all the medical issues. Really, those are getting on my nerves with their limits. ;)

Thank you for reminding me of the other things I need to consider. I do appreciate it greatly.

I can't remember now if it said November or September for me, before I enter that stage if I go on this diet. Normally that would seem like a long time but it really doesn't right now.

Thanks for giving me an idea of how things go. It's great that you are that supportive. Definitely makes dieting easier. I think my husband will be the same way once I figure out exactly how to go about things.

This diet doesn't - but you can if you want to. It is 'sold' as such but I am wary of that concept as what happens when you finish the dieting phase and then have to become accustomed to eating less?! Best you don't go there in the first place if you ask me.

I am always mindful of not getting into the habit of eating too much. I am sure Anthony and I are both a little heavier coming back from our cruise as they had sauces on most dishes, cooked in butter, oil etc which we don't normally have along with all the alcoholic cocktails :O_o:.

It's also easier to eat more when there is too much to choose from or new dishes in front of you in a smorgasbord - you try a bit of this and that and you've eaten more than you normally would without meaning to. Same as going out for dinner with others and they have dessert so you decide to have some even though you don't normally eat that much. I found I have to watch nibbles (entrées) prior to the main meal if I'm hungry :hungry: as I often eat quicker, and then more before feeling full :meh:, if dinner is later than what we usually eat.

Britt,
There is so much that is wrong with your reasoning already. From what you have said before you have multiple psychological issues around food. Even loosing weight with the support of an eating disorder dietician and with a mealplan that includes all foodgroups and is regular those are likely to become worse initially (for most).

Doing something that is aimed at loosing weight; which has restrictions on certain food groups and which is not regular in what is eaten is likely to do so much much more. And that is just on the psychological level. When it comes to physiology there is a lot of research that shows that there are genetic predispositions and that nutritional changes can be big triggers. Dieticians trained in eating disorders understand these things and know how best to navigate through them.

I wonder if you are doing this knowing that you should'n't be doing it. Because your want to loose weight is stronger than your need to get over the residual bits of your eating disorder and because you don't want to acknowledge your health requirements.

Your aim in order of priority needs to be: health; getting rid of the residual eating disorder including all remaining behaviours; loosing the weight.

Actually just going to add this: what are you thinking girl?!

what are you thinking girl?!

I think you know what I'm thinking!

Nothing taken wrong with what you said by the way. Made me smile. Have to say, ran the Dukan diet, without much information, over with my husband. Told him, abridged version, some of what you said. He said "Good for her! Someone other then your husband telling you these things, you just might listen!" Dang you have him in your corner! :arghh;:roflmao:

Still thinking of it, but I'm also trying to listen to calling a nutritionist who might help with the eating disorder messages. Need someone to get over my distaste(pun intended) of eating.

Looking over the first week of the Dukan diet. Thinking it is more eating then I can usually manage. Hubby tries to get me to eat just as much despite my weight. He's lived with this a long time and I am sure it is frustrating to him. He knows I beat myself up over the weight but knows it is more my health and inability to exercise on a normal basis then the amount or what I eat.

I hate calling people, you know this don't you? I will try as soon as I stop typing. I promise.

I lost weight on cruise

Great job Anthony! From what I hear, that isn't an easy feat on a cruise!
