The Dukan Diet

Very well done Anthony.

So, after seeing a nutritionist, and going over my average food day, it has been decided that I do not take in enough calories(under 1000). We are going to work on getting me to eat without panicking so no diet now. Just a healthy life change. She stated we are going to do this slowly to get my body and mind adjusted. She said, just by letting my organs know that I am no longer going to starve them my body should start responding by losing the weight around my middle. She also gave me some easy exercises that I should be able to do regardless of my health issues.

Oh, and she said peanut butter(my reduced fat kind) is a good source of protein and she encourages me eating it(non overindulging) since I rarely eat meat and never eggs. Yippee for me! :D Have to put that into the peanut butter thread.

I was watching a study that was released via media, about moving and metabolism. Very interesting to see just how much moving, fidgeting even, adds to kicking in your metabolism. If you just lay around, sit around, without really moving much, then your body stores more fat, regardless how much you starve yourself.

Interesting stuff... it was a long-term study with significant participants, so the results are a little more solid.

Nicolette and I are both baffled just how much the stairs on the ship helped us both though... our calves are toned and obviously it burns lots of calories taking the stairs instead of elevators. I think we're lucky if we used the elevators 5 time in total. We just walked the flights each time... nice stairs, nice walk inside a ship up and down stairs, so we got lots of exercise inside the ship.

Starving yourself and being immobile definitely messes up your metabolism, among other things.

I live in a two story. Normally I can go up and down my stairs without issue. Sometimes my dog will run up to the landing to jump in my arms so I can carry her the rest of the way. I think she is part of my fitness routine. :)

Sadly a lot of those with anorexia know this. I know I did. I purposely fidgeted all the time. Eventually I realised that for those of us with eating disorders doing anything that "feeds" - ha - the thinking is unhelpful.

healthy life change

Britt,
Well done! Anorexia can leave physical affects on the body long after it passes. Just eating enough protein is going to help your metabolism a lot.

I wanted to add that if you are not totally vegetarian that you take Omega 3 supplements (fish oil) and discuss this with your nutritionist. There is much research that shows it is an amazing anti-inflammatory and that could be very helpful for your immune disorders. And your heart for that that matter. The conditions you have are serious and I think you are going to benefit a lot by taking steps with your general health and nutrition.

Well, I finally got my Dukan book and am going to shop today and start tomorrow. I really like meat and dairy, and thought this initial Protein only phase sounded pretty good. Then I remembered how sick you guys got at the thought of eating any more meat. It should be interesting to say the least.

got my Dukan book

When researching the Dukan diet I noticed there were a couple helpful blogs about it. I just typed in Dukan Diet in google and found them. They were very positive and truthful about going through the diet. I found it helpful, even though I am not going to, at this time, go on the diet. (simply due to some mental health and body issues)

The first couple of weeks are honestly the worst... and it takes some time and playing around with recipes to work things out for yourself. You just can't eat plain meat... you have to add herbs and spices, but more you eat meat that is flavoured, not cooked in a sauce or such.

I am so thankful to be on stage 3 now... one protein day a week, the rest I eat salads, vegetables and meats. Nice and easy...

So far so good for me! I am enjoying eating nothing but protein, day in and day out...ok, maybe "enjoy" is a strong word, but it is manageable so far. I've used some non-fat dairy for my protein to break up the monotony of the meat. I think that has been my saving grace. I have tried using different herbs and some vinegars to add some variety to my meats. I've actually been craving spicy food lately, so me and cayenne pepper have become good friends.

I know a lot of it is water weight, but it is very motivating to get on the scale and see it continue to go down at such a steady rate. I think that is the main thing that helps me continue to give up the tasty high-carb foods that I love so much.
