Eve, we can all just do what we can. There is no shame in that. DO NOT let them shame you. Good for you for recognizing your limits. I couldn't handle that, either. Personally, I'm even kind of scared of having a Hillary sign on our lawn. In past election years, we've had lawn signs stolen, so hubby brings them in every night and puts them back out in the morning. I can imagine this year will be worse. And we live in a small town where "everybody knows everybody."

I'm sorry that person did that to you, Eve. That person needs to take a step back if s/he is getting upset by normal human behaviors. Most who are called cannot or don't wish to volunteer and that is fine. It's not for everyone.

I phone bank when I can. Due to my knee & foot problems, I cannot canvas yet. I've never had anyone scream at me. They ones who aren't supporters typically hang up.

For phone banking, we are given a campaign cell phone (so they can keep track of the cost) and a list of likely Dem voters who have either voted dem in the past, or registered Dem. We don't cold-call anyone, nor do we call anyone who has registered as a Republican. So it's rare to have someone on the other end of the line be hostile.

It was intimidating at first but after a few calls I got to meet a lot of wonderful, like-minded people in my deeply red community. Many of them have become friends over the years. It also helped me see that I am not alone. It also helped me build self-confidence. But I didn't ever volunteer until I felt I was ready, and some people just don't like the phone and that's ok.

I will admit that as the election draws closer I have trouble maintaining my affect with friends who are Trump supporters. I'm not sure I can even call them friends anyone since I have a problem with anyone supporting a rapist.

It's tough-------I feel the same @BloomInWinter i mean how could someone be my friend when they support someone who does things very much in the same realm of what caused my PTSD? Being friends with Trump supporters means is have to be a fake, a fraud, a phony, and a total sell out. I've come too far in my healing to do something like that.


It's amazing how many right wing radio shows there are in this country. They spread such vicious lies!

Wow, Hillary was impressive last night. The only time I saw her pause during his interruptions was when he called her a "nasty woman." I really admire her for being able to maintain her composure with such abusive language being hurled her way. But then again, I can't think of a single woman I know who hasn't had to deal with that type of behavior.

How any abuse survivor could vote for that man is beyond me.

Michelle's speech was awesome! Just watched it. I am going to miss her. I hope she continuities all of her awesome work!

I agree, I don't understand how any abuse survivor could support that man. (My apologies to real men out there as this sack-o-crap does no deserve that descriptor.) I am finally working through that triggering mess so that phrase --ahem-- doesn't affect me as much but it still makes me cringe. I am glad that so many women and men have spoken out against this. I am so glad that Hillary is taking a strong stand on this as well.

She is awesome! I'm still drying my tears. I'm going to miss her, too. But I'm willing to bet my paychecks for the next 10 years that Michelle and Barack are not just going away. They truly care and will find paths to continue to contribute to this country and the world. Just as Jimmy Carter has done.
