News The Hillary Support Thread!

What is so striking to me is the casual use of so much verbal and emotional abuse by all the GOP c...

Agreed.

I sit here and wonder, I know there are Trump supporters in my family, so what do I do? Ignore it all? That's akin to selling out my basic principles I do believe. Then there's the idea of just letting it go because they're family but that doesn't seem right either.

I have a horrible time accepting that I'm not the worst person in the world. (My other posts show this struggle.) How can I just let it go when I know that family members support someone who hates women (especially if they're not a size 0), hates minoritities, hates disabled people, and so on?

Am I wrong in thinking that their support of Trump is a way of hating me? Am I overthinking here? But how can I not be? I hate to draw Hitler comparisons, but what if someone said "I love hitler, but it doesn't mean I am anti-Semitic or hate/dislike Jewish people"......I think everyone's eyes would bug out!

I am sorry for hijacking the thread I started but since we aren't allowed to start any more threads that mention politics, I can't say this anywhere else.

I think many of us liberals struggle with what to think of those who support such hateful politicians. It's like finding out that the people we're surrounded by are of a different species. Perhaps Trump supporters feel the same way about us. But I refuse to self-censor anymore to accommodate someone else's comfort with their own bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia, poor-shaming, fat-shaming, pro-abuse language in my presence.

I've worked too hard to break free of a family that was like that even while being "Good Christians" and even leaders in their churches. I just can't be a silent observer anymore.

I look at how Hillary conducted herself in the debate and all throughout her life and feel compelled to stand with her against the haters. Her policies have done more to improve my life than all the obstructionist GOP members of congress right now combined.

I does.seem like GOPS are the party of hate and it was like that before this campaign. I blame it on Reagan and his moral majority...Bible beaters and judgement became integral w the Republicans.

I'm not sure you can change anyone, Eve, as our country is so divided, there aren't many grey thinkers. It does make me cringe when the right wing spouts "liberal" like a dirty word, as though it's evil to want equality, kindness, compassion, etc. to be woven into government!

Curious about libertarian party so I'm watching the town hall. Good ideas (some) but they want to cut planned parenthood funding by 20%. Old white men just don't get it. Women are always (ALWAYS!) responsible for pregnancy prevention and for many women they're responsible for 100% of childcare costs if the guy wants out. Yes, I said it. Guys have it easy on this front. It's sad that they want to cut something so basic to the planning of healthy families. I mean it's pregnancy prevention so that the woman becomes pregnant when she's prepared (and not before----leading to a life of poverty) and it's about women's reproductive health. Healthy moms=healthy kids-------if we are a society that produces unhealthy kids, this is bad for society and the future of all.

<<<gets off soapbox>>>

GO HILLARY!

But yeah, why are so many young people, young women(!) flocking to libertarians when they are showing that they don't care about women/families. I guess small government is paramount to them even if people suffer. SMH.

Gloria Steinham was just on All In-----said Barbara Mikulski (long time MD senator) and the prime minister of NZ were subjected to the same criticism as Hillary------pointing to the fact that much of this is misogyny.

Yep, I saw Gloria Steinem and Barbara Morgan on All In, too, Eve. I've resisted the explanation that this is misogynism, since I haven't experienced that in my professional life and I suspect lots of younger women haven't, either, but there's really no other explanation. There're lots of Neaderthal-type prejudices out there, and Trump gives them a space to come out now.

Trump's comments about his sexual assaults of women - and apparently girls - are absolutely disgusting. I cannot understand how any woman can support such a predator.

He is unbelievable. The way he stalked Hillary around the stage during the debate...triggering for me. I think a lot of us women know what it's like to have a man invading our personal space as an intimidation tactic.

I used to feel sympathy for Bill Clinton's ex-mistresses and "victims" but I cannot understand what type of people would have the temerity to align with a major abuser like Trump and do their best to intimidate the WIFE. Come on, now. That makes me think maybe they really are just after the limelight. I'd rather die than stand alongside a man like Trump just to help him intimidate the spouse of my abusers. That is truly disgraceful and disgusting.

Trump's ranting and bizarre threats sure sound familiar. I really have lost respect for anyone who aligns themselves with the man. He's about as un-American as it gets.

My kids watched the debate with me for at least some of the time. It was good for discussion of identifying a narcissist and abuser. We also discussed what repealing the ACA would mean for our family.

Honestly, that the GOP has propped up so many foul misogynistic men to their leadership positions is a national disgrace.

The GOP leaders standing by Trump despite his disgusting behavior only further convinces me that a woman voting for the GOP is voting against herself. Gee, some are finally distancing themselves from him, but the fact that they've been furthering his campaign all along despite his bullying and hateful statements makes it quite clear they are doing what is politically expedient as opposed to have done what would have been right, which would have been to disavow him long, long ago.

That the National Fraternal Order of Police still endorses him matching my experiences with the racism and misogyny of the majority of law enforcement officers I know in my neck of the woods.

That Evangelical Christians are still supporting him deepens my belief that their brand of Christianity is far, far away from The Christ.

Was called by the Hillary people. They asked me to canvas and phone bank. I declined. Getting threatened to my face or screamed at on the phone would cause a shut down episode for sure. I told people and they shamed me for declining.
