I watched this on the weekend, just amazing. Sam Worthington does an amazing job in this... his daughter is abducted and killed, he blames God for it. He comes to understand that blame is the not the answer.

The Shack (2017 Movie) Official Trailer – ‘Believe’

A spiritual based movie, yet it clicked for me as it aligned exactly with my thoughts on religion and beliefs. They should not be joined as corporations (religious organisations) have done.

God, in the movie, says that those who follow blindly a religion, are slaves. Totally agree. Yet gives insightful views on how we, human beings, are being judge and jury to our peers, ourselves, yet we blame God, we blame others, for our own actions. Man is the enemy, the good and the evil.

A good line was: man was not meant to play God.

A really good movie, especially from someone who is not spiritual.

Have you seen it? What were your thoughts?

I read the book and watched the movie. Both were wonderful. Gives you hope that forgiveness on every level is possible.

I haven't seen the movie but read the book at a time when my own feelings about faith and religion were being sorely shaken. I found it helpful for framing my thinking away from traditional views of god and organised religion.

I saw the author give a talk about 8 years ago, and he wrote the book as part of his process to work through being molested as a child and the impact that had on his life even as an adult. He actually wrote it as just a book for his family, and photocopied it and gave it as a Christmas gift... and it took off from there.

After that, I read the book and it really gave deeper meaning to it all, knowing it was written by someone who had survived trauma, and has lived through how that impacts a person and relationships.

I was really moved by how it talks about love and relationships and the messiness of honesty.

I haven't seen the movie yet.

Interesting as I have read the Shack. But I expect the book is different than the movie based on the opening post.

Yup that is a very good line. I loved the book though like other fiction there are some things to be discerned. Thanks for putting up a trailer as I had no idea that they would make this a movie.

I like that the main character is willing to return to a point of difficulty. So many don't.

I expect the dispute for secularists is perceptually discerning/identifying "blindly".

I saw this movie on my birthday and was, along with everyone else sobbing around me (like the entire audience), wrecked by it. I was raised fundamentalist Christian (the we-gotta-yank-em-out-of-hell by scaring the living crap out of them type of upbringing). I was terrified every day I was going to hell even though I had said the so-called Sinner's Prayer like 50 times. My life didn't get better after I asked Jesus into my heart. I didn't even know what that meant except that I was bad and saying those words were supposed to keep me from eternal damnation.

This movie is such the antithesis of that upbringing. OMG, every scene was poignant! I feel that this movie and storyline will bring more people to a relationship with the Divine than any preacher ever has! Whether you are a believer or not, folks who are trauma survivors should see this film. It is nothing short of an amazingly healing experience.

Things to look for: How Holy Spirit collects Mack's tears, placing them in a beautiful bottle as he cries them. And what Holy Spirit is collecting them for in the end is breathtaking.

Favorite quote from God: when you truly love, it always leaves a mark. (This was said after Mack looks at Papa's hands and sees scars from the crucifixion.)

If you see only one movie for the rest of your life, let it be The Shack.

I feel that this movie and storyline will bring more people to a relationship with the Divine than any preacher ever has!

Yep. I think more will understand that you don't need to follow an organised religion to believe that there is something bigger than us all, and its OK to just believe what you believe, without forcing yourself into the confines of a group that you don't believe in.

If everyone watched this, I think the majority would walk away a better person if they held onto some of the methods and applied them to their daily living, beliefs or otherwise.

My therapist asked me about this movie at my last session, as those are all relevant questions right now. He has recommended this movie (or book) to me. I haven't seen it yet.

A really good summary for many situations. Too bad so many people don't get that. Thanks for the review.

It sounds like a really good movie to watch for me. I am not part of any organized religon due to my own current beliefs. I do believe in my higher power the creator, and I pretty much practice my own faith quietly. I think that being traumatized spurs on personal growth for me and I have learned so much on my own. I have no need to join a church now. Learning about what faith really helped me to start developing my own beliefs and I still have a long way to go.

I want to watch this movie because it sounds powerful in presenting some basic truths and sounds honest without pretense.

Loved the book and movie. Others have told me they had a hard time getting in to the book and I just couldn't believe it. I know now it's most likely because they didn't have the same anger at God I did.
